So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Right now I'm wishing tese annoying fireworks weren't on the page. They add no value and are distracting. I can't be bothered to try and post any more with things exploding all over the place.

Have you reduced the amount of Fast Food you eat due to cost?

I've considered the vast majority of fast food to be garbage for years. I think the last time I was in Burger King was in 2021. The last time I was in McDonalds was probably 2016 and even that was only because I was with friends - I didn't order any food for myself. I've had food from Arby's...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

FIghting with insulation panels. I've managed to clear enough space around the wall I framed, and in the space where I'm storing the stack of remaining panels, so that I can feed the panels into my table saw, get the strips upstairs, and fitted into the spaces. Spaces aren't quite as uniform as...

Should Biden be the Democrat Nominee or Step Down?

I think this is a key point. However unappealing the two candidates are in all probability one of them will be president come January and declining to vote effectively denies oneself the opportunity to decide which one. Unless someone is truly equally satisfied with the prospect of either it...

What type of roofing do you prefer?

I've become a fan of having layers of redundancy, as long as each one adds some value. As long as a metal roof over the top of the shingle won't cause you problems down the line, if you need to work on the shingle but can't because the metal is in the way, that seems like a good way to go.

What type of roofing do you prefer?

There may have been some spray involved but from what I recall (it was a long time ago now) it was some kind of waterproof fabric put on the roof in layers, with presumably something in between the layers to make sure they all stay stuck together and stuck to the roof. It was applied to a period...

Tonight's debate between Biden and Trump

The trouble is the lack of sensible options. A voter who is even a moderate Democrat would really struggle to vote for Trump, which leaves them with the option of Newsom or a third-party candidate. When both sides field candidates who even moderates on their own side increasingly dislike it...

How often do you go to meetings at church?

If committees actually achieve anything I don't mind serving on them. When they turn into places where people meet to talk a lot and nothing ever happens I rapidly lose interest in them.

What type of roofing do you prefer?

We had a contractor come in and lay multiple layers of waterproofing material across the entire roof. I'm not sure exactly what it was, only that it was the same stuff he laid across the porch roof and as far as I can tell neither of them have let in any water in a very long time. We used to get...

What type of roofing do you prefer?

Anything that keeps the rain on the outside is good with me. We have a metal roof over part of the house and the original flat wooden roof (coated with many layers of waterproofing materials) over the rest. We got tired of having the roof patched only for rainwater to flow over the patch and...

Tonight's debate between Biden and Trump

I didn't watch the debate. I was interested to see the New York Times this morning, hardly a right-wing mouthpiece, saying more or less that Biden's performance was a disaster and Democrats are worried now. Curiously it mentioned a poll that said well over half of voters don't plan to change...

    Should Grandma babysit for free?

Even if there is preschool involved you'd be talking a daily commitment where, whatever happened, you'd need to be home in time to get the kid off the bus, you may need to be there in time to put the kid on the bus, you might need to put your plans on hold at a moment's notice if your daughter...

    Should Grandma babysit for free?

Watching the kids for a while is very different to agreeing to watch them all day, every day, indefinitely, for free. Hey, maybe grandma can also pay the mortgage and bills while she's at it. It's really no different to anything else that might be done occasionally or regularly. If I'm going to...

Who will it be? (Vice-President nominee)

Being a bit more serious than my previous comment, I think another key attribute is an appeal to a voter demographic that the presidential candidate may lack. I remember at least some of the response when John McCain appointed Sarah Palin as his VP candidate - the party faithful cheered but...

Would you live in Russia (compared to where you live now)?

Maybe. I've never felt the need to particularly speak out against entire groups of people. I know some Muslims are terrorists and some are not, the ones I've known have been good people. I'm sure some Jews are bad people, but the ones I've known have been good people. You can find good and bad...

    EVs during this heat wave

A constant problem with just about any system is determining a fail state, i.e. what the system does if some aspect of it fails. Whatever the system does in a fail state creates potential issues, and it's a question of determining which situations are desirable and whether the potential...
