If Calvinism is not right, how come some people can't muster up faith?

Scripture quotes Christ saying this: IF ANY(one) is WILLING... After Me to be coming... Let him FIRST deny himself [REPENT]... THEN take up his cross... AND Follow Me... Notice it does not say: "IF anyone is GIVEN FAITH by Me, then he WILL deny himself and take up his cross and follow...

What in the world did I say?? I mean, beards are, after all, oh so manly... Sissies can never grow beards, as everyone knows... And the hierarchy of bishops in the orthodox faith is established on the basis of the length of their respective beards... As all know... Jes' sayin'! Arsenios

If Calvinism is not right, how come some people can't muster up faith?

Well, if faith is not a feeling of belief, what is it? You are not saying it is a work now are you Josiah?? :) Or is it mere abstract intellectual assent without any feeling? I mean, the EOC considers faith to be THE Faith OF Christ which He discipled to His Apostles... And THAT Faith comes...

    Save yourselves?

Indeed! Let's see what he tells them to do: They asked what they could do to be saved... Peter answered: "Repent and be Baptized"... Those who obeyed the Gospel, who repented and received Baptism into Christ, were saved... Those who did not were not... They did not save themselves... And...

CRISIS IN ORTHODOXY - UKRANIAN AUTOCEPHALOY

We disagree... I know you think so... Christ is the Head of His Body... This body has no earthly Head but Christ... "Behold I am with you always... Even to the end of the Age... At least He is the Head of our Communion... The E/P, in this context of usurping authority, risks usurping...

What is God's role in salvation?

What is His Role? What is the Bride-groom's role in a Marriage? What the Bride's? How does this relate to the Parable of the 10 Virgins? Arsenios

    Calvinism Vs Arminian

The answer is no and yes... Indeed He so loves sinners that He sent His Only Begotten Son that they should have Life in Him... He even said: "I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance..." Why would He DO that if He hates sinners? The word for World is Kosmos/Cosmos...

    Calvinism Vs Arminian

From your perspective as a fallen person, you are correct as you are seeing matters from God's Perspective... But your error is that you do NOT see from God's Perspective... You have self-determination in this life, and God foreknows all you will self-determine to do in this life... Only God...

You will know yourself from the life you live which God has always foreknown... Of course... I prefer the translation "fore-ordained"... You are right - He fore-knows the exact choices we are making... From the perspective of fallen man, that is true, but the Bible instructs us...

We all become accustomed to a certain kind of "feel" for the Services in which we participate... The feeling between these two enactments of the same Service is very different, wouldn't you say? I have heard my Catholic brothers describe our services as very akin to the High Mass... And the...

Here is the thing, Menno - God already knows what you will do... And He does desire all men to come to Knowledge of the Truth... But here is the rub, you see... YOU do NOT KNOW if YOU will come to such knowledge... God could have just gone ahead and saved all those He foreknew would choose...

At what point were churches able to select their own pastors?

In the EOC, Bishops still tonsure Readers, Ordain Deacons and Presbyters, and conjointly elevate to the Episcopacy those qualified... In many settings, those elevated are "home grown", and often can and do abide in their home settings... Others, especially in our mobile society, move about and...

There is a time for every season... So we live our lives - And they are OUR lives, and God arranges for us to have one crisis after the next, until we die... All in the hopes that we will turn from our life headed into death, and call upon Him in our despair... When we do, He will come to...

CRISIS IN ORTHODOXY - UKRANIAN AUTOCEPHALOY

And He is not the Pope or any other human Head within His Body... And in this fallen creation, He directs His Body, the Church... When that Body does not receive His Direction... But instead asserts its headship over Christ's Body... It is pruned from the True Vine... This is the danger for...

CRISIS IN ORTHODOXY - UKRANIAN AUTOCEPHALOY

It all started from here: During his enthronement festivities, the new Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, announced his intentions of following the ecumenical direction set by his predecessors. In a letter to the hieromonk, Polycarp, his beatitude, Metropolitan Antony (Khrapovitsky)...

Well, yes, we do teach that you can ask and receive, seek and find, and beckon that it come unto you, all from God... And we teach also that God is alive in His Saints and speaks in them, which is how the Bible was written... "Passive" is hardly the right term for God, however... But in this...

Getting through tough times and trials

I have a priest to whom I am eternally indebted, for he explained very clearly and consistently on the meaning of depression and great trials... And for that matter, even on those of somewhat lesser import. One person complained to him one day about what had happened that very morning... "I...
