So... What are YOU doing? - Part 5

Feeling a bit "buzz-y". Too much caffeine

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 5

Got home from an interview for a "meh" job, watched a bit of TV and did some laundry. Got home and saw I missed a call from the local health authority for an interview for a GREAT position. I'll catch them first thing tomorrow. The health authority is a prime place to work but tough to get in -...

Genesis story of creation "Days" literal or not?

I am what you might call an "Old earth creationist". I've not done extensive studying, but I believe that fossil records, some evidence of warming and cooling periods/ice ages, and geological records point to it. Plus, the conjecture of Dinosaurs on the Ark is a laughable concept. I was a...

Why become a Catholic if you are a Protestant?

In the OP there are a couple of assumptions made initially: 1) That the protestant in question has "a knowledge of the gospel" (Christ and the Cross). There is an assumption that one has "heard about" these things. Why would it be concluded that one would not hear about these things in the...

    Forum word of the day!

A 'hat tip' to MoreCoffee! Conflagration: *A large fire that causes a lot of damage *A large and violent event, such as a war, involving a lot of people https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/conflagration

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 5

I like to make and freeze pots of spaghetti (with sauce and veggies/meat). It dries out a bit defrosted, but more sauce fixes that. Chili does well, soups, stews - anything like that in batches

Why is he called the HOLY Spirit?

I see that others have beat me to it. My speculation would be that there are many 'spirits' in the world, and in the 'spiritual' realm, but one Holy Spirit who is God.

For what purpose do denominations build icons and statues

Good point. Perhaps the point of the OP? As an aside, let's take (for example) my avatar. If I were to be walking along this garden path, and come across this statue and be "moved" by it - enough to offer thanks to Christ for his sacrifice for me - is the movement and thanks directed to the...

    Establishments you wont frequent again

We do have one independent, local place out here that's really good. I don't mind paying the extra for the Cappuccinos and Mocha's once in a while, because they really do make them well and I like supporting the 'little guy'. They're right next door to a used book place so an afternoon of...

    Establishments you wont frequent again

They were better at one time. When I first moved here the coffee seemed to be better, and they had expanded into the states a bit. They were acquired by 'Restaurant Brands' (Burger King, Popeye's Chicken) and went downhill. A number of the franchisee's aren't fair in their business practices...

    Establishments you wont frequent again

Tim Hortons! Donuts are shipped in frozen (much like Dunkin' Donuts), the coffee is incredibly scalding, and they are perpetually "out of" whatever I want to eat. Breakfast sandwiches are served cold, their "dark roast" is the same as their light roast - thin and bland. If I want a "dark roast"...

Trudeau and Bill Nye to "discuss" innovation

Oh, the India visit. What a clown. Apparently, he was dressed for a wedding (as the groom) in one of the shots.

    The Gospel being modernized

    The Gospel being modernized

When a soloist sings "Blessings" by Laura Storey, I begin to wonder about the theology of the church as well.

    Establishments you wont frequent again

I forgot about our local Canadian Tire. The guy running the repair shop has the personality of a wet mop, unless you're a female, then you get the wet mop 'deluxe' treatment because you obviously don't know what you're talking about. But you need the wrong battery installed? They've got you...

Air out your pet peeves here :)

Okay, so this relates to my earlier 'pet peeve' about drivers. I'm consciously going to work on my own driving habits because I really don't have any patience when I drive. Prayers are appreciated :)

    The Gospel being modernized

It's very millenial, and (for me) part of a problem. I could throw a pebble in our downtown core, and the chances of it ricocheting off about 10 non-denom or modern Mennonite churches is pretty high. The Lutheran church will be transitioning to a "blended" service soon, mostly because they're...
