    Proof texting

BY recording the truth as it is discovered. It is discovered in the holy scriptures and in apostolic tradition. The process of discovery appears to be a long process. Each generation discovers new things. Sometimes the discoveries are profound and then they are recorded in church councils.

Heated debate on the meaning of baptism isn't doing us any good. Let's have a hot drink and sit in comfy seats and then have a quiet chat about what we care about. I care about helping disadvantaged people; native Australians, refugees, and people who struggle with depression and loneliness.

    the meaning of Baptism

All 5 guys ought to be baptised when they realise that Jesus commanded that disciples be baptised in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. If they refuse baptism then they are not following Jesus and are not his disciples.

    Proof texting

quite right. It's using a text (almost always without proper respect for its context in the scriptures and in the culture of the times it was written and its purpose for being written) and applying it as a "proof" for some doctrine that it does not in fact support.

    the meaning of Baptism

Fundamentally, MennoSota, it is not baptism if you do not get wet. There is one baptism. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

There is one baptism. The scripture testifies to it. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. [Ephesians 4:4-6]

    the meaning of Baptism

I point to five places in holy scripture. The passages themselves make the doctrine. It is not my doing. God inspired the words and the passages. Read in context they do in fact teach regeneration with baptism. John 3:5, Romans 6:3-9, Titus 3:5, 1 Peter 3:18-22, Acts 22:1-21. Of course there...

    the meaning of Baptism

There are at least five places in the new testament that testify to baptism regenerating. You still haven't told us what baptism means according to the holy scriptures. You never really gave a thoughtful reply to atpollard's appeal to you - the post about sitting at a table with him (a fellow...

    the meaning of Baptism

I mentioned five passages and all five are about baptism. You just like to pretend that they are about something else - something unspecified that involves water.

    the meaning of Baptism

You are the one whose posts discount what the holy scriptures say. You ignore the water that Jesus speaks about in John 3:5. You claim that "this baptism now saves you" means something different from what it says. You deny that "he saved us, by means of the cleansing water of rebirth and renewal...
