    My wife and I always plan on attending the tenebrae service but I can't remember what they used to create the Strepitus last year. At a previous Lutheran church I attended the Pastor used a large bible and closed it abruptly. I have to admit with the sanctuary being dark and silent I did jump.

    Sure on a rare occasion. I do it as much for spiritual guidance as I do for absolution.

    I think other scriptures can give us a hint. John 1:14 the Word became flesh. So I think it's safe to say that the 'bread from heaven' became flesh when the words of consecration are spoken over it.
