I would think that if a student speaks with their professor beforehand, and explains that they wish to participate in a scheduled protest that coincides with their class time, then the professor would likely excuse the absence and allow for work/tests to be made up. I agree that it's too late to change the rules for this most recent election. Also, since this system works in favor of roughly half the nation and they certainly aren't going to be motivated to remove a policy that skews the elections in their favor, it's going to be real tough to get it changed. -
