    Down with Franchises!

Franchises provide a much needed consistency. When I travel I use franchises and name brands because I don’t have the luxury of making time to meet the owner and try the business. I have not been to a local McDonalds in 10-12 years, but certainly have stopped at a McDonalds in some unknown...

    early diagnosis of diabetes

Yay for the good sugar levels! I had a stretch were I was having pump and sensor failures, it is super frustrating when it happens away from home or in the middle of the night. But for the past few months everything has been relatively quiet. I too wanted to quit, but the stick the finger four...

    early diagnosis of diabetes

Is your transmitter built into the sensor? I do notice that when I replace my sensor I register 10-25 mg/dl higher but it normalizes in a few hours. When I change my sensor, I pull out the transmitter and then reuse it in the new sensor. I get a new transmitter every 90 days. When I first...

    early diagnosis of diabetes

Really? I don't have to calibrate mine. I do change my pump out every three days and my sensor every ten days, and the transmitter in my sensor I change every 90 days. What a pain, but 100 times better than the old method. If I have to be Type 1, guess it's the best choice.

    early diagnosis of diabetes

The stuff I have read, they are not much different that the pump and sensor. They have a third component that tells the pump to deliver insulin according to the sensor information. Basically removing the patient out of the loop. My doctor didn't really want me to have one of those. Because...

    Carrot cake lovers?

I've had many variations of carrot cake, being a tasty cake is all that matters to me. I prefer a cream frosting but it really doesn't matter especially about all the other stuff.

Sanders wants to eliminate student debt...but there's a catch

You got my vote, but make it mortgage debt and I'll even campaign for you. I don't have a car note.

    early diagnosis of diabetes

I'm sure in the near future, diabetes will be cured. Diabetes is one of the first diseases described with an Egyptian manuscript from c. 1500 BC mentioning "too great emptying of the urine." (Wikipedia) Although still in the very early stages of development, cell therapy is one of the biggest...

Churches having own form of police?

I agree, if they can afford it then it's okay to protect their own. They have more members and students than the town and county of Mayberry, NC, USA has citizens. And they had a sheriff, a deputy and every now and then they would have part-timers.

    Toy Story 4

I think I've seen all previous Toy Stories, but I'm not sure. Well, I couldn't tell you the story line of each one but I remember liking them. I will probably not be one of the first in line to see it. I'm still trying to get through the first The Secret Life of Pets so I can watch the second...

    Seasonal blues?

Spring is the worst for me, it's sloppy, rainy, and allergies flair up and I'm tired all the time. Spring cleaning, getting the mowers ready for mowing, the list goes on and on, to much to do. Fall is my favorite, the clothes, the smells of bonfires, the fireplace, the academic feel like going...

Do you prefer to file taxes online or in person?

What I thought was... "do I prepare them myself using online service or installed tax program and e-file OR take them in for a tax service or accountant to do it?" I guess, I can do them old school with the paper forms and a No. 2 pencil.

Do you prefer to file taxes online or in person?

I file online, but always owe... so I get them done early but wait until the final hour to submit.

What was your first date like?

I took her to a play at the Blackstone in Chicago, I think it was "Deathtrap". Then went to Gino's East a very hip Chicago style pizza place at the time. That was 38 years ago.

What’s your favorite type of bread?

My favorite is any kind straight out of the oven! A rustic herb fresh boule. Great for just dipping in olive oil, sandwiches and even french toast. Bread pudding, yum.

    Worst natural disaster

Snowstorm of '79, I was held up in the Pontiac, IL armory for 3 days with about 100 other people. We were all rescued from the highway and now we were waiting for the highway department to locate our cars and tow them in. When I found my car it was in a local repair garage and it was a block...

    What printer do you use?

I have a Lexmark and an HP, both all-in-one. Both wifi, but both connected to my router hard-wired, so it it depends on where I am in the house where I print. I can also print to my printers remotely from any place I have internet connection. My house guests print to the Lexmark, my HP runs...

    Sleep on a couch?

Depends on the couch. I have a large salon sofa which has a continuous curve, it's difficult to sleep all night on it. But then I also have a sofa that has sat 12 people at the same time, I can always find a spot on it and sleep all night. But, I would rather be in a bed!

    Condiments on Burgers

I make two different style of burgers, my regular burger with cheese is served with lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a toasted brioche bun. With ketchup, mustard (dijon is good), and mayo. The other is a loose meat steak burger also with cheese and just served with sauteed sweet onions with...
