Church Hiring? Does the process need a Change?

It largely depends on what type of church you are applying to and the size of the church at least from what I have seen. The larger or less rural churches are probably more often open to the more educated and trained minister. The more rural and less educated the congregation the less likely...

Church Hiring? Does the process need a Change?

especially in a small church I would think so where a few families run the church and all the programs that go on in it. You don't want them quitting all their jobs suddenly. That actually happened to me one time. I made the wrong person mad and he quit all his positions effective immediately...

Church Hiring? Does the process need a Change?

the reason I think that sometimes churches hire from within is that they know the person and they know what to expect. The churches knows what they are getting and there is a certain level of trust that has been built up. Churches are like families with different family members playing roles...

    Who are you here for?

It was both a process and an event. I went through a period of waiting while God pruned me and made me into a person he could use. That period lasted about 5 years. It would have been shorter, but I resisted all along the way. I thought I was wasting time. What I realize now is that in...

    Who are you here for?

I think you have a lot of good things to share with others. Just be open to God directing your path and He will in His time.

    Who are you here for?

Yeah, I think the sermon series has challenged me to get outside my comfort zone and help others. I volunteered tonight to go help out at a agency that helps those in need with clothing and furniture. I am starting Saturday morning

    Who are you here for?

The pastor where I go to church had a message where he said sometimes people ask the question "Why am I here?" or "What am I suppose to do with my life?" and he suggested that instead of asking that question a better question would be "Who am i here for?" We discussed this in my men's group...

    Maintaining health while on vacation!

When I was a kid we would go see the grandparents in Ohio and visit all the food places we liked. There was a chicken resturant, a root beer stand and a pizza place. It was pretty much mandatory that we go to all three if we could.

    Maintaining health while on vacation!

    Sleeping with night guard

I think the diagnosis was wrong. Everyone in that particular dentist office had a mouth guard. It's extra money for a greedy dentist

What do you look for in a church?

When I say instill hope I mean a message that encourages me. When Paul was in prison and writing the Philippian letter he repeatedly said to rejoice in the Lord. He could do this regardless of the circumstances. We can't rejoice in our circumstances at times because they change all the time...

    Sleeping with night guard

Years ago my dentist told me i had TMJ and needed one and I said thanks, but no thanks and didn't do it. Funny that they never mention in anymore and I go get a cleaning every six months. It's isn't the same dentist either

    Boy Scouts now accepts girls

What's next? Will boys be allowed to join the girl scouts? This seems really stupid to me. I remember years of going to cub scouts, though I didn't do boy scouts. We had a lot of great camping trips and a lot of it was about having fun with other guys and doing guy stuff.

    Loving Your Neighbor

We've been in the middle of a sermon series the last four weeks about share the love. The pastor talks about there is a rhythm to receiving then sharing God's love. We have to do both. We have to realize and understand how much God loves us. But, it doesn't stop with us. He loves others...

What do you look for in a church?

I would agree with you that lyrics matter. I would also agree that there is too much pop psychology being taught in the pulpits today instead of preaching God's Word. I want to go and get a message that honors God, instills hope and focuses on His good news of redemption.

What do you look for in a church?

Yes, I wouldn't think that would happe in a spur of a moment. I would think it might impact issues such as ordaination of the pastor as well possibly? The church I attend now is nondenominational and isn't a part of a national body

    What is worship?

Yet, in an earlier post, you said it was an "act". All I'm saying is that there is more to it than that. Motive and intention matters. Look at 1 Corinthians 13, where Paul lists all the things a person can do and if they don't do it in love then it doesn't mean a thing

What do you look for in a church?

yes, I was wondering about that. How many local parishes actually own their own land and building. If they do leave, they have to decide who they are going to join with and that could start a lot of infighting all by itself. It really puts the local parish in a difficult position

    What is worship?

So your going to take what goes on in a person's heart out of the equation then and just make it about what I do. Never mind motives and intent. Really?

    What is worship?

I'm kinda wondering if you know what reconciliation even means? Through Christ I have been reconciled to Him. Paul has said in numerous places in scripture that he wants believer to walk in a manner that is worthy of the Lord in all respects. Look in Colossians 1:9-10 "For this reason also...
