Jesus died for the sins of the world

Universal atonement is Pelagianism (not Christianity) Because it saves no one. As you affirm, it gives people the opportunity to save themselves by works. What other than by Free Will? = Pelagianism. A Heresy according to the early church.

Jesus died for the sins of the world

But sin deadens the will so it cannot discern spiritual truth. So I take it you believe in free will? Condemned as heresy at Ephesus is 431?

Jesus died for the sins of the world

I have plenty of scripture that proves it. But I have more to offer first. Universal atonement results in salvation by works. Because it didn’t save anyone. It only supposedly cleared the way for people to save themselves through works of obedience. This became known as Pelagianism, condemned...

It proves Jesus didn't save anyone according to you. As you say he supposedly made a way for not too sinful people to save themselves.

Jesus died for the sins of the world

You are suggesting salvation is by works when you say the lost have an opportunity...... to save themselves? How else can it be taken? What about the helpless as Luther points out?

Jesus died for the sins of the world

His blood paid for the sins of those who by grace believe. Most do not believe and perish. So you deny that his shed blood saves. Or they would be saved.

  13. 1689Dave

Jesus died for the sins of the world

I'm proving that universal atonement = salvation by works. Prove that it is not.

Jesus died for the sins of the world

God promised Abraham salvation of the whole world. That is Jews and Gentiles. So in this case the whole world is not each and every person, but the elect who live in the whole world. Just as most of Isreal was not saved, except a small remnant of elect. Also, consider the New World where all...

Jesus died for the sins of the world

I don't think you can refute him, the Catholics could not. Let's put it this way. Do you believe in free will salvation?

Jesus died for the sins of the world

More Luther: Sect. 164.—I OMIT to bring forward that truly Achillean Scripture of mine, which the Diatribe proudly passes by untouched—I mean, that which Paul teaches, Rom. vii. and Gal. v., that there is in the saints, and in the godly, so powerful a warfare between the spirit and the flesh...

Jesus died for the sins of the world

Faith is a fruit of the Holy Spirit you must have before you can believe. So you don't really believe until after God saves you. In that case, it proves Jesus paid for your sins. Your choosing to believe only proves you don't believe in truth or you would not need to choose.
