    Disney+

my claim is that it’s perefectly ok to reject messages you disagree with. The “cancel culture” thing seems like an attack on perfectly normal behavior by people you just disagree with. How many times have evangelicals tried to cancel Disney or various liberal institutions? Some conservative...

    Covid Numbers Dropped Drastically!

The NY area is having slight increases. It looks like the early days, when Covid came in via places with heavy contact with China (West Coast) or Europe (East Coast). In this case it seems mostly the East Coast. My assumption is we're seeing the impact of BA.2. So far it's no where near the...

Telling children they're going to Hell

That's almost certainly not in the original text of Mark. I suspect you can find something similar elsewhere.

What is your view on proselytizing?

Of course. The question is how. If people around me don't know that I'm Christian and at least some of what that means, I'm not doing my job. I'm not so sure that some kinds of evangelism are helpful though.

In the US, yes, not necessarily elsewhere.

Why did Jesus say almsgiving purges sin?

Of course Jesus rejected greed and wickedness, but his objection in those verses was to their insistence on the purity law. The greed and wickedness would add hypocrisy to the problems, but he didn't object to the purity laws just because the people advocating them were wicked.

Does Romans 2 teach a works based salvation?

Not exactly. This is part of a larger argument. Romans as a whole is dealing with the question of whether it is necessary to become Jewish before you can become Christian. The first part of Romans is written in "diatribe style," where opponents' arguments are stated and then answered. A major...

Why did Jesus say almsgiving purges sin?

This isn't about sin, at least not directly. The Pharisees followed, indeed elaborated upon, OT purity rules. Jesus did not accept purity as a goal. Rather, love and obedience. He's commenting here on rules designed to maintain ritual cleanness, which was part of the whole purity culture. He is...

God did not create sex for pleasure

The video seems incoherent. But it has also pushed the discussion in an odd direction. Normally the proposed purpose in addition to procreation is unitive, I.e. a bond between partners. The relationship of marriage is clearly endorsed by both OT and Jesus. Sex within it, even if children are not...

    CoronaVirus

Biden has generally taken the right steps, but at times too late. People originally criticized his push for boosters, but that turns out to have been right. Vaccine distribution has gone well. Testing ramp up is too late. The CDC is no longer under political restraint, but has longstanding...

    Cross dressing pastors!

I have a more precise account, from UMC Insight. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee in his church insisted that he leave. Officially, he requested reassignment. The committee has no official power to remove the pastor, but it would be difficult for a pastor to work effectively if they want him...

    Cross dressing pastors!

If the story is accurate, he did this in support of LGBT people, so in this case we know the intention of appearing in drag. Your reaction will depend upon your reaction on the whole LGBT issue. I think what he did was right, but I wonder whether he counted the cost first. The Methodist Church...

"Volume of Truth" : Protestant Declaration of Canon?

The quotations seem to be from quite some time ago. Protestants attitudes towards Catholics are rather different now. The ABS supplies Bibles with the D-C books. Indeed their own translation (the Good News Bible) has an edition with the D-C books and an imprimature.

God did not create sex for pleasure

I think you should look at the Bible as a whole. The biggest collection of prayers -- the Psalms -- are full of situations where what people want didn't happen. Jesus prayed to be spared death, and wasn't, and he warns people that they will be persecuted. I just looked at two commentaries on...

It is human, but not a human. Again, the hair in a wig is human, but it is not a human.

Roe vs. Wade and the Supreme Court

Of course it's human, but so is a dead body or the human hair in a wig. That doesn't have much to do with abortion.
