Could you expand on this topic please. It might help clarify the discussion that is taking place in the senior member forum. Or I could be completely off as to the topic on the forum in general
It's been a few months since I wrote the original post in this thread. If I try hard I may remember the context that encouraged me to write it. Let's see how I go ...
I wrote "
Pushing "the party line" against "the opposition" even when not invited to do so and when the topic needs no rebuttal is one way to kill an idea. It's a sort of murder. Not a crime. Just destructive - like the republican vs democrat thing in the USA."
In politics the idea would be to push whatever the political party says is their position on a topic even if doing so will harm the nation and end any chance of productive conversation and compromise for the benefit of the people.
In religion the idea would be to push whatever the denomination says is their position on a topic even if doing so will harm Christianity and end any chance of productive conversation and ecumenical work for the benefit of the people.
In CH the idea would be to push whatever the denomination (or at least one's understanding of what the denomination) says is their position even if doing so will frustrate your friends in CH and end any chance of productive conversation with them for the benefit of whoever reads the thread. I imagine some friendships are ended this way. Some friendships may be damaged this way. Some enmities are probably created this way.
Take it as read that people will happily taunt and annoy their enemies in CH. That is the custom on message boards.
Does that help?
