Once I went to a restaurant and Anton Geesink was eating there, our most famous judoka. He was really nice and normal, no airs whatsoever and he said hi.
Oh lol and last year I went with the kids to the Ajax soccer stadium and we went to the shop and outside was a guy who said: I work here and I have a pen to give you. So they gambled and the oldest one got it. I thought he worked in that shop lol but he was a famous international who played for the national team. Luckily my son recognized him. He said: Aren't you Marc Overmars? Yeah yeah, lol.
Very modest guy. I was too shy to ask if I could make a pic of them lol as if he isnt used to that.

I didn't actually meet him but I walked past Mike Ditka (Chicago Bears coach) in front of the Chicago Tribune back in the late 80s! :) He was getting out of his limo and I was on my way to work.

 :airkiss::hearts:  Rens is staaarrrstruck! :=D:

I've met quite a few celebs, actually, some because of things like conferences, workshops, retreats, booksignings, banquets, and sports and concert events. I guess I haven't thought too much about it, but overall I've really been pretty blessed to meet some really decent ppl of the 'celebrity' or even 'semi-famous' class.

One of whom, a sports figure and great guy, died recently, sadly too young, and also few others that have also passed recently who I really liked as well. :( One I met as a child, at a schoolfriends BarMitzphah, and then I met a couple more times, many years later as an adult , unplanned and a pleasant surprise, (but without the Love-Sw:love::love:ning Rens had for the 'Futboller' guy.) :kids:

(I kid ya, Rens, ... I've had moments) (I am thinking of one just recently  )

Very cool. My dad would like this alot. He has, or had, a few autographed baseballs by them. And he has a ball from years ago, the Pirates played the Phillies, at ConnieMack Stadium, we were in the left field bleachers.
Pirate Dick Stuart crushed a ball that went over our heads to the roof.
Everyone though he hit it out of the park, but my dad said, That's on the roof and it's gonna roll back down. It was slanted there, and as everybody focussed on the game, my dad turned around and stood there waiting, and sure enough, the ball rolled back down landed right in his hands.
It's funny, I always thought it was Junior Gilliam, and Mom said the same, but Dad insists it was Dick Stuart .... He has another home-run ball that Junior hit ... he says that was right field at Shibe Park. It went past everybody and bounced around the back of the stadium, and he walked back up and got it. It's hard to corroborate those kind of things, but Dad's not the kind of guy to ever make stuff like that up. He's had quite the storied life and is still a big Steelers, Pirates, Penguins fan. I love my Dad. I'm guessing your Dad was quite the guy, too. They're a special bunch.
Thanks for stirring those memories, brother. :) GBU

Yes, my dad was a big fan and played a lot of ball when younger and coached as well. He worked in Panama as a civilian and they recruited there and that is how dad became friends with them. Was in Fla during the winter leaugue down there that I met them
