I started again reading the Bible. A guy on Facebook said: Lets start this day with the song: Seek ye first the Kingdom of God.
So I also took the Bible and read it and I'm reading about Lazarus and I cried.
First you read they cry cause they mourn, then Jesus cries because of their unbelief and then Martha says: he has been laying there for 4 days Lord, he smells, but that word is so funny, that old Dutch language. So I literally had tears streaming down my face.
Anyways, I'm picking it up again, spending time with Him.

Sitting the garden on a quiet sunny day is good for communion with God.

I like how God puts some funnies into the Bible for us ;)

What will you be reading next?

I read every day. This morning I am reading from Ecclesiastes. The third chapter reminds us that there is a time for everything, and there is nothing better for mankind to do but to eat and drink and to enjoy working. That makes sense on so many levels. How many people hate their work? But this book tells us that work is a gift from God.

Lol ... I like the King James Version ...
HE STINKETH ! ..... :=D:

I got in trouble with a family member a while back. When the pope died, and they put him on display for a few days, I said to her, 'Do you know by now, he stinketh?' And she just looked at me °~° , and then she said, 'This is for the ppl to pay their last respects ... he's been interred'.
And I said, 'Yeah ..... That's why!!!' :slap:

That shortest verse in the bible says so much, you could do an hour sermon just on it, easy. Actually, I think an all day sermon, really ..... It has hit me in different ways at different times, mostly brought me to my knees in tears, too, Rens .

I can see the gospel in it, but I guess a person would need to know the gospel first, (before being saved, I guess it would be hard to see), but since then, I've read John11:35 'Jesus wept' , and seen the love of God and salvation right in it.

I don't know if you could just say it to an unbeliever and they'd be saved, but who knows? Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, and you never know if a person has heard enough things before, and the soil of his heart receives that word, 'Jesus wept' and that seed is planted for salvation.

I dont know, I don't really know how these things work, but I know you can't go wrong with God's Word, .... It goes forth and accomplishes what it (He) wills, it doesn't return void, so God bless you all in His Word today.

Thanks, Rens, for this thread. I hope it grows into a place of inspiration for reading about Jesus, .... And what a great place to start, with Him raising Lazarus from the dead, showing both the love of God and His own power over life and death in one beautiful passage. God bless you. Jesus loves you. :friends:

It's a good book from a wonderful author.... It's a bit uneven, IMO, gosh, some parts kind of bored me and I was tempted to skip right over it, but other parts had me on the edge of my seat! I frankly liked the later part (what is called the NEW Testament) a lot better although the ending is a bit weird.

I recommend it. I give it Five Stars.

"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."
(The End) Gosh! You're right. That IS weird! :slap:
Lol, just kidding. I know that's not how you meant it! GBU :)

There's this part about a skinny kid named David and this literal giant named Goliath! I LOVE that story!!! I've re-read that part many times!
And there's this man named Noah and a big boat; not sure what to make of the story but being an animal lover, I LOVE all that!
And there's a whole thing about this king named Josiah - for personal reasons, I've always loved that part.

But the best part is in the "new" section!
The Baby Jesus stuff in Luke..... Sure, everyone loves a baby but this is all so full of pathos and love; just beautiful and heart warming (even kids love it)
And that miracle where Jesus uses a SPIT BALL! Yes, He made a mud ball and did a miracle with it! LOVE that! Maybe He can do miracles with me?
The end of Jesus - really, really interesting but really, really sad and disturbing. But keep going, it has a surprise ending (I won't post a spoiler)

Happy reading!

What was it you spotted? That Eve added on to what God said (she added that they couldn't touch the fruit) or that both trees were in the middle of the garden?

Today, I was reading in Gen. 30. I decided to share my thoughts here because I laughed at the situation. I am sure the ladies can appreciate my thoughts better than my brothers here so guys, bear with me. But here is the rub.I have not yet understood how it was that Jacob was not an adulterer when he had two wives and two concubines. Multiple wives it seems was ok. But you don't see women with multiple husbands in the OT. This is a mystery to me.
Now this part is the part that had me laughing.
Gen. 30:14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.

15 And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes.

16 And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

Ladies, can you imagine hiring out your husband for a night?:rotfl:
And Leah had the nerve to accuse Rachael of taking her husband when she was the one who was sneaked into Jacob's bed unbeknownst to him (It must have been very dark) on Rachel's wedding night. So who took whose husband?

Yeah but I wonder if she even knew. It's not like now. Maybe her dad told her he arranged that with him. Dunno. He was first her husband. They were later both mad at their dad. Nice dad.
Lol but I always wondered how that guy didn't see the difference. And in the morning look it was Leah. Was he drunk or something?
I always refused to pray for the real Jacob, they call Mr. Right that here, well no thanks.

(Oops, Sorry, Forgot)
It was that when she told the devil, 'God said...etc.,' she stated that "God said THE tree that's in the MIDST of the garden, we shouldn't eat, etc. etc...." , but actually GOD didn't Exactly say that, not quite that way.

A more accurate quote would have been to say that God said we shouldn't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Now we know, or at least can assume, that THAT tree was ALSO in the midst of the garden, along with the Tree of Life, but referring to it as 'THE' tree probably wasn't the best way to put it.

Perhaps saying 'One of the trees' in the midst, etc., ..... Or, 'THIS tree in the midst, but not THAT tree in the midst', etc., might've been better.
But when the bible makes reference to 'THE tree in the MIDST of the garden', it usually refers to the Tree of Life, as it does in Revelation also.

But I'm not adding more blame to Eve. It's still that deceiving devil that cast doubt on God's Word that started the whole mess, that is the real culprit. I'm sure I would have been deceived or sinned willfully just like Adam and Eve or worse, if possible. I was just seeing it as one more example of how important it is to be as accurate as possible when handling God's Word ... Not to add to, or remove from, or mis-apply it. I saw it more as a personal encouragement, and I hadn't quite noticed that before, and I just thought I'd share it, that's all. :)

You know in Eastern culture back then, probably now also, the men and the women did not celebrate together. But, it was Rachael that Jacob bargained for and Rachael's wedding or so Jacob believed. He was pretty messed up when daylight hit and bam! It was Leah he had deflowered instead of his beloved Rachael. And I guess Jacob could have also been drunk, and it was dark.
