How are all of you at driving in the snow?

I grew up driving in the snow the problem is other drivers who don't respect it. When I'm driving I just keep saying to myself "stay away from me..." You'd think they would figure it out but they don't.

I'm like you! I grew up knowing how to drive in the snow. Now I live where people panic if there is a weather forecast of an inch! I think the panic is what causes them to lose focus and then they drive erratically. Stay home is right!

Like you I grew up around it but there is still the issue of other drivers and a long time ago I was down in thye Houston Texas area and they had an inch of snow, the first they had had in ten years, and nit shut everything down. I drove to work and they were all like how did you get here, they were amazed I made it.

When I moved closer to the city the transport was so good that it didn't make sense to keep a vehicle. But going for drives was the favorite way to relax. I miss driving a lot.

It says "the uploader has not made this video available in your country" but I did find the story here

http://www.wptv.com/news/national/massive-fire-causes-interstate-overpass-to-collapse-in-atlanta

I'm surprised they didn't close the freeway down. Apparently it was caused by some "PVC products that caught fire."?

They did close that section down. It will be down possibly for a few weeks if not months. They really don't know what the cause of the fire was. They only speculate that it was PVC products.

Yes staying off the road in bad weather is best so what I do on really bad mornings is text my boss I'm coming in late and then I miss the morning rush and the plows have more time to remove the snow.

Generally it's not a problem but I get concerned based on the number of knuckleheads out there who don't seem to consider it necessary to slow down when conditions are bad.

What I really don't like is when snow blows across the road, so the surface under the wheels can shift without warning from being like driving on regular tarmac, to gravel, to wet ice. One winter I was approaching a junction at about 5mph because it was snowy and I needed to stop at the junction and the blowing snow caused my wheels to lose traction even at that slow speed. Fortunately there were no other cars approaching, as the easiest way to regain control of the car was to let it roll through the junction like a slow-motion version of something out of the Fast and Furious movies. I don't think I've ever gone round a junction nearly sideways before but got it back under control.

Snow is great! Love it! Most folks here drive pretty good in it. Its the ice storms we've had that are really hazardous.

People in this area freak out at 1/2 inch of snow, everything shuts down. There is a joke going around these parts that says if it snows you need three friends, one for the grocery store, one for the video store and one for the liquor store. LOL!

I've reached the point where I would love to never have to drive again.
Having been in an accident a couple years ago, which totaled my car
(everyone involved was fine, no injuries) didn't exactly boost my
enthusiasm either.

Don't know if I'll bite the bullet and do so, but I often talk of getting rid
of my car and just walking / bicycling to where I need to go. Taxis for
longer trips. The money I'd save alone would make it worthwhile.
