Do you think often of your departed family members who died either recently or a long time ago and your dear friends too? I do. I pray for them too. My parents died some time ago. A dear friend of many years died three or so years ago. I miss them. I pray for them. I hope that they pray for me too.

I believe my departed family members are in heaven (not purgatory) and thus they have nothing for me to pray for. They have it ALL.

My father died just over two years ago and although we never had a close relationship we enjoyed debating biblical faith. (Respectfully of course). As he saw his life drawing short he did start to cozy up to the possibility of a Savior like God. So I never was sure if he was born again and I felt the yearning to pray that he made it to heaven knowing all along only God knows if he did.

God is merciful and hears the prayers of his children. I pray for many people both living on the earth now and departed. It is good to remember one's friends and loved ones in prayer.

I don't like to talk about it much but I have had my dad pass away followed by 4 brothers, which leaves me with one sister who I don't get along with and my mom who I don't get to see much but talk with on the phone. My younger brothers passed away in their 20's a long time ago. Their names were Al & Len. My other 2 brothers just passed away in the last 2 yrs. It's been difficult but I'm seeing my way better because of what they taught me in our time together. Now I'm just grateful for this disfunctional family that somehow reminds me of the chaos of home.

He who lives for ever created the whole universe; the Lord alone is just. He governs the world with the palm of his hand, and all things obey his will: for he is the King of all, by his power dividing holy things among them from profane. To none has he given power to proclaim his works; and who can search out his mighty deeds? Who can measure his majestic power? And who can fully recount his mercies? It is not possible to diminish or increase them, nor is it possible to fathom the wonders of the Lord. When human beings have finished, they are just beginning, and when they stop, they are still perplexed. What are human beings, and of what use are they? What is good in them, and what is evil? The number of days in their life is great if they reach one hundred years. Like a drop of water from the sea and a grain of sand, so are a few years among the days of eternity. That is why the Lord is patient with them and pours out his mercy upon them. He sees and recognises that their end is miserable; therefore he grants them forgiveness all the more. The compassion of human beings is for their neighbours, but the compassion of the Lord is for every living thing. He rebukes and trains and teaches them, and turns them back, as a shepherd his flock. He has compassion on those who accept his discipline and who are eager for his precepts.
Sir 18:1-14

I don't see any reason to pray for those who are deceased, simply because if they are in heaven there's no need to pray and if they are in hell there's not much hope for them. I do still think of people who have died over the years - I haven't lost any family members for a few years now but in the last few months a few people who I'd consider friends, albeit much older friends, have passed.

The example set in the liturgy is to ask (pray) the angels and saints to pray to the Lord our God for us. So I do that. It's part of their calling in heaven to pray for the faithful on Earth.

It's part of their call to pray so we don't have to ask them to do something they're called to do ;)

That falls too much into the zone of they did not receive because of their unbelief for my theological comfort zone. It's not an act of boldness to the throne of grace to receive the covering of His blood that wipes away all sin. Angels and departed saints cannot do that. Unless you have scripture that says elsewise I believe that to be a fallacy.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Angels talk to God so therefore they pray. I was stating that we don't have to ask them to pray since they already talk to God.

But while we are on this topic, I posted that I had lost my brothers recently so if any of my posts seem off it's because I've had to deal with alternative medicines and their effects to be able to adjust to the horror of the situation that's still burning a hole into my conscietiousness. ptl

It's different theology that is in Hebrews where it explains to probably the Essenes that the angels are secondary and that Christ is to be placed first. Jesus is exemplified as the way over anything else

We ask God for things and God already knows what we need before we ask yet we keep asking - the same is true of the angels and saints, we ask them to do what God intends them to do and we keep asking. It is good to do what God calls upon us to do and to encourage others to do the same.
