Why do some Protestants put on rock concerts?

i some what suppose that when we get into the heavenly presence of the lord -we will all be a bit embarrassed by our musical preferences when we see how dismally they compare to heaven .. ;)

If you'd ever heard me attempting to play a music instrument you'd have an idea of what that experience will be like. I sound pretty dismal when compared to cats fighting.

LOL :rotfl:. Me too Tango. Despite their best efforts, my music teachers could not help me master the clarinet nor the piano.

I tend to imagine heavenly music as more serene than the rock concerts that some Christian churches like to push onto congregations.

I suspect whatever the music in heaven is, it will be a joy to the listeners. I find a lot of opera to be an assault on my eardrums but find thrash metal can be soothing (I know, I'm odd...). Others like commercial style pop, rap, opera, classical etc. Some like traditional hymns accompanied by a church organ, others prefer more contemporary songs.

I suspect the earthly saying "You can't please everyone" won't apply in heaven :)

and THAT transcends all forms of clattering earthly version and style .

mind you one thing iv raised already.. singing songs and having music at church..is not worship.. it is a partial expression of worship -a great expression .but it is not worship as a whole . living in the holy spirit and obeying the lord ..layng down our lives for his wil.. (living sacrifice )this is our acceptable worship

I'm talking about the church services to where it looks more like a rock concert rather than a worship service.

They do it because they like to be naughty :smirk:

I once went to a 'church' called God's pleasure. That was especially for youth. They were head banging on the podium with horrendous music and sometimes they screamed Jesus. It was insane. Didnt take long before the whole thing collapsed.
Even a regular disco was better than that.

I could care less what style of music is employed in worship. I'm pretty sure God couldn't care less.

It's WHAT is being proclaimed that is the issue.... not the musical style it is set to.

I like loud sometimes but sometimes I like quiet melodies. I prefer something kind of middle of the road.

I have contemporary worship and I can tell you that what we sing is fine as far as the message, it is about Jesus and Gods mercy and grace, His help in time of struggle. A great service

I recall back when 'Vineyard' was still somewhat popular for their worship music, they really began to go off the deep end. They had one group that literally sounded like 'Nirvana'. It's freaky. Cover your ears...

I love churches just not the people in them. They always get into little groups and not always very nice to new people. Our churches are just boring and could do with some life put into them. Probably why I stopped going years ago.. I don't need a church to pray or sing come to that.. but I do like looking in old country ones.

"I couldn't care less" is long-hand for "I don't care"

Impossible with our church to go in tiny groups. Lol it's so tiny. Last sundays there wasn't even a service for the adults. If a new member comes everyone is super excited lol.

What do you go to a meeting for?

To be entertained?

To be welcomed and liked?

To worship God in a community of God's people?

Is it about meeting your expectations? really?

Well, let's be realistic (or not...). Sometimes, yes. If we're honest about it, we do come with our preconceived notions and expectations. It's how we respond when our expectations take precedence in the 'meeting' that may be at issue. If I take exception to the 'concert', I'll typically have a seat, and wait for the rest of the service. I suspect it might be the same for the modern Evangelical attending a very liturgical service - not what they expect (i.e. preferences), but hopefully, that doesn't take precedence over the word of God being preached.
