Do you become a glutton during the holiday season between Thanksgiving day and Christmas/new-year or do you show admirable restraint in your eating during this gluttony inducing season?

I'm a glutton on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If there is a nice party in between I gorge then too. I admit it. I like food.

It's good for the winter, extra fat, to stay warm.

What are those pastries? Not cream puffs...?

Oil bolls sucked full with fat, in English they call it Dutch doughnuts. The fruit is marzipan yum. Stores are full of it now.

IMO, "gluttony" refers not to a meal but to a life..... Yes, a LOT of people in the USA (and I suspect Australia, too) eat too much and eat too badly.... obesity is now regarded as the leading preventable cause of death in the USA, as I understand it. To me, in most cases, gluttony is probably at the root of that health problem. But this requires a lot more than "over eating" at one meal, one day of the year (or even a few dozen meals a year). I probably ate too much at dinner yesterday, but then I only had a piece of toast for breakfast and had no lunch - so I may not have exceeded the daily calorie needs. And today is a new day.... and I will go to the fitness center.....

Are there any times when Australians consume more than 2000 calories in a day? Are there any Australians who are overweight because they eat too much?

No they eat only carrots and hop around on kangaroos to stay fit.

Chocolate covered cherries are really good for you. Cherries are a fruit and chocolate comes from beans which are vegetables :)

If chocolate covered cherries are a fruit, then plum pudding is the whole tree and fruitcake is the whole orchard! Mmmm. Plum pudding.

Somehow it looks as if North American chaps are more attached to their Thanksgiving & Christmas gluttony than to ascetic moderation in this season of penance known as Advent!

Season of penance is a Catholic thing though right?

I celebrate the birth of the Lord by eating :D He always fed His people, right?

Yes :)

He gave them fish and bread sufficient to satisfy their hunger.

Is that the same as turkey and stuffing? :p

Yeah, we all like to eat on the holidays don't we? I have to watch between holidays that I don't overdue it. Seems I want the whole time between Thanksgiving and New Years to be the holidays and eat continually. But I am going to try and behave!!
