Here's a map of the communities covered by the territories mentioned in saint Peter's first letter.

From Peter, apostle of Jesus Christ--- To God's chosen people who live as refugees scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. [1 Peter 1:1]

222

It's interesting to see maps that give an idea of what territory the apostles covered.

They should lay a current map under it to know where it is.

Oh thanks. I never understand those maps. Maybe I should make them myself. If we make old maps from how it used to look like in Holland we put underneath it in light grey how it is now, so you see exactly where it is immediately.

Yes, there is a seat in Saint Peter's basilica that is allegedly the seat of saint Peter meaning the seat in which he sat as presiding bishop of Rome when he lived 2,000 years ago.

Interesting Rome is not on the map. Could it be for the same reason that Paul never so much as mentions Peter in his epistle to the Romans????? Probably impossible to know.

Anyway, thanks for the map

Saint Peter mentions Rome by circumlocution in his first letter.

The Church which is in Babylon, elect together with you, greets you, as does my son, Mark. [1 Peter 5:13]
The church, which is in Babylon, (at Rome, say Eusebius, St. Jerome, &c.) so called not only on account of the extent of its empire, but also for its idolatry and vices.

Mark, my son: generally thought to have been St. Mark, the evangelist.

See the unjust prepossession of certain seceders. In this text, where all the lights of antiquity understand Rome by Babylon, they deny it; and in the book of Revelation, where all evil spoken of Babylon, there they will have it signify nothing else but Rome: yes, and the Church of Rome, not (as the holy Fathers interpret it) the temporal state of the heathen empire.

MoreCoffee simply presented a map showing Peter's ministry areas. I simply noted it didn't show Rome.... I found that, well, curious coming from a Catholic.

Personally, I'm quite open to the possibility that Peter was at least a casual visitor/tourist to the city of Rome. I find it less plausible that he was a pastor there (suggesting he was there for some time) in light of Paul not so much as MENTIONING him in his epistle to that church. I find it unlikely that he did something SO horrible as to be demoted from Apostle to a mere bishop but I guess that's possible. In any case, the map MoreCoffee offered of where Peter mininstered didn't show Rome - at all. Interesting. I do know that MUCH later, it was a CLAIM that Peter was a bishop there (not Apostle - not even archbishop or cardinal but demoted all the way to just a bishop) but I'm unaware of anything contemporary that confirms that; and again, odd that Paul didn't know anything about that and it seems nor did Luke in Acts. But hey....could be no one knew he was a bishop there until MUCH later, MANY years later. I'm personally curious what he did to be removed from his office as Apostle.... But we're way off topic. I simply thought it curious a CATHOLIC would put up a map of where Peter ministered that doesn't show Rome. Interesting. That's all.

Whether Peter was a tourist or a pastor or even an Apostle horribly demoted to a mere bishop and put there, none of that says anything about him being the Infallible One or some Vicar of Jesus.... and nothing about the RC Denomination (which didn't even exist yet). But again, MY point was that a Catholic put up a map showing where Peter ministered and (very remarkably) - no mention of Rome at all. Interesting. That's all.

Eusebius and St. Jerome say that saint Peter was in Rome when he wrote the first of his letters. The early church fathers testify to saint Peter being in Rome and leading the church there. He is included in the list of popes from the earliest days for which such records were kept. Yet in his first letter he starts by mentioning the areas in Turkey shown in the first post and at the end of his first letter he sends the salutations in the Lord of the church at Rome (called by circumlocution Babylon).

James was the first head of the church but you know all this, it is a shame you cant see through the deception of the church of trying to present Peter as the head of it but hey I guess he lived to when it ws founded much later, right?
