I suspect that which day gets called "first" is a matter of convention/taste. In Australia it is common to refer to Monday as the first day of the week.

Yes saturday and sunday is the end of the week: weekend.

Yep, that's how it works. Monday-Friday are working days while Saturday & Sunday are the weekend (days of rest and recreation).
