I have a confession to make...I was mischievous and played a prank in the "boys v girls - Part 4" thread, whereby anyone whose profile says they are male (except me, so I could act like I couldn't replicate the issue), was prevented from posting in that thread.:sadwavey:

The code I added made it appear that the affected users were trying to post a blank post, and would be shown the error message that their post was too short.

I've deactivated that code, and now it's back to normal. Shame on me! :woot:

Teachers used to us that as a punishment. I wonder if it is still used today?

Probably not...it might be seen as too damaging to a youngster's delicate self-esteem, and so they are suspended for 3 days when 15 minutes in the corner would have sufficed a generation or two ago.

My pastor gets worked up (only a little) about schools giving awards to pretty well every student - things like attending, drawing within the lines, and other trivialities so that nobody feels left out. He reckons that it makes awards for real achievement unnoticeable and close to worthless. I think he is probably right.

When I was a lad in school, we were given an award for perfect attendance. In second grade, I was given the award, even though I knew I had missed a day. After the ceremony, I went down to the office to turn in the award, and explained I had missed a day and didn't deserve the spiffy certificate they had given me. The school secretary became immediately annoyed with me and told me I must be mistaken and to essentially go away and stop bothering her.

I learned a valuable lesson that day...even well-intentioned honesty isn't always appreciated.

Before I went home that day, I discreetly threw the certificate away...I didn't want anything to do with it since I didn't deserve it.

I believe that at schools here in Oz honesty of that kind would probably earn you an additional certificate "most honest student in class" or something :p

I'm still damaged because my sister once put me in a corner when I was 3 and she had to babysit me. Lol she told me that she said: Go stand in the corner! and I just quietly stood in the corner and she didn't know what to do next. Well, you can come out now, she said.
