In Chemistry the official name is Aluminium so even if one is a USA chemist one will say Al-u-min-ium ... isn't that interesting :)

In Canada and the US the spelling is Aluminum. It's not just about diction but also the spelling is different. Same thing though :)

I say aluminium too.

This was a program where they made fun of popular Dutch people, this is about a niece from our queen and there were things going on, a fight, she wanted the queen to apologize to her. He says: Margaritha is there something you want to say to the queen? Yes, I am now gonna say something that is very difficult for me, she says:

I know that the spelling differs except when writing fr peer reviewed chemistry publications - then the spelling is always intended to be aluminium.

Both spellings are acceptable as well as both ways to pronounce. Where you live usually is an indication of how you will say it and spell it.

My concern is not with common people pronouncing the word :p

It's the elite of Chemistry that I am speaking about :)

I have always thought that Terence Tao should make an appearance on "The Big Bang Theory" and put ol' Sheldon in his place. However, that's a brilliant story idea, and the writers seem to be adverse to those the last few years. :(
