I was looking at some pictures of Belgium, Holland, northern France, and Denmark in winter and late autumn and it looks very bleak. Cloudy gray skies, rain, sleet, leafless trees, snow, cold winds ...

Makes me glad of Australian winter where it is sunny most days :)

Sunrise, Perth in winter.

When you mentioned northern Europe I didn't expect you to be talking about Belgium and France. I was thinking of places like northern Norway. It's achingly beautiful in the winter, but also brutally cold. I visited in October some years ago and standing at Nordkapp in ten inches of snow and howling Arctic winds was pretty chilly.

I think that winter in the south, Italy and Spain and Greece etcetera is not so bleak, not always raining, not covered in snow, not entirely leafless trees :)

But your summer is cold. Better live half the year in Australia. My aunt from Tasmania always sent me koala bears. She complained that they had no white Christmas LOL.
