MoreCoffee: I see you never went through the earring phase! did you?
Personally I think that for youngsters today it's pretty benign for the most part when young men do it.
Years ago men and boys didn't used to have it done, anyway. Though maybe you have family members who went through the earring phase. Now men and boys often do and I for one don't have a problem with it. It's all rather subjective.I never was even slightly interested in receiving an ear ring or a tattoo....

You're right about not forming judgments about people on such a basis! What others do with their bodies is not within my power to control and I am glad it is not within my power. If I see a tattoo or 'face metal' that is (in my opinion) unsightly all that means is that I do not think it looks attractive/good. I try not to form an opinion of a person based on their tattoos or face-metal, earrings included.

Regarding the other part of your comment, I guess you yourself evidently didn't have a son who wanted earrings; nor did I, but I do happen to think it's perfectly natural these days both for a boy or young man to want simple ear studs put in, as girls and young women do - probably more ornate ones; and perfectly natural for parents to facilitate both sons as well as daughters doing it. (But this is just my 2c.)
I think a pair of simple looking studs are a perfectly good and acceptable gift for parents to give to an adolescent son for his b-day or Christmas, if indeed this is what he wants.I do not have any special dislike for earrings in a male's ear if the same earring is acceptable in a female's ear but I do notice that some earrings appear to be accepted by males and some rejected and maybe the basis is what is regarded as gender appropriate by males.
I never was even slightly interested in receiving an ear ring ...
PS:
I think it's probably very much a generational thing also! right? Today, it's like a natural wish and expectation among very many young men. And usually both ears, not just one.
MoreCoffee: Point taken! but I guess I mean that 40 years ago it wasn't customary for young men to stud both ears; whereas now it is for so many; and isn't regarded as unusual at all when they do it and when parents give sons as well as daughters earrings, anyway. (2c of observations...)It may be generational or may not ... pirates wore earrings according to history

MoreCoffee: In the 80s, the custom for young men was to do 1 ear; their sisters (and their moms!) were probably doing 2 each side.Yes, it appears to be a fashion now. It was in the 1990s too. But not so much in the 2000s
I voted None. Pretty self-explanatory
Oh right okay; I'm kind of technologically illiterate...The area of Florida I live in has a large "redneck" community, and they wouldn't be caught dead wearing an earring.
