No but it is part of what your church believes

It's an order. It is not a body that defines Catholic beliefs. Like Kenneth Copeland is a word of Faith preacher but is not able to define your doctrine for you.

OK but I thought all direction came from the pope and the higher ups, was not aware that the rank and file had any real say over doctrine

If you thought that in the past you can stop doing so now because it is not so. Opus Dei does not define doctrine any more than an individual does. Dogma and doctrine is defined by the consensus of the whole church. You've had the advantage of being informed of what is correct and can put away the misconception to which you formerly held.

Opus Dei is not my faith.

Pope John XXIII: “No individual Christian can grow in perfection, nor can Christianity gain in vigor, except it be on the basis of penance. That is why in Our Apostolic Constitution officially proclaiming the Second Vatican Council and urging the faithful to make a worthy spiritual preparation for this great event by prayer and other acts of Christian virtue, we included a warning to them not to overlook the practice of voluntary mortification.” Encyclical Paenitentiam Agere (On the Need for the Practice of Interior and Exterior Penance), July 1, 1962. http://opusdei.us/en-us/article/opus-dei-and-corporal-mortification/

Voluntary mortification is dying to self. This is a biblical concept. Perhaps you have read these passages.

Galatians 2:20 ESV I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Luke 9:23 ESV And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Galatians 5:24 ESV And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

So mortify the flesh (which is a Latin-derived phrase) means the same thing as crucify the flesh. Why complain about what the holy scriptures teach? It isn't a "Catholic only" doctrine.

That makes sense

George, I know you said you don't have an opinion, but what if you saw an image of a supposed Mary? What would be some of your first thoughts?

I'm not quite sure. I would honestly have no words at the time.

That's probably true! The Supernatural, even in demonic form is quite shocking.

In a case of Blessed Mary appearing it is far more likely to be awe inspiring than shocking.

The closer to imitating that which is held dear, the harder it is to believe it is a deception.

One thing I found interesting is that both RCC and Muslims venerate these images.

It began on the eve of Tuesday, April of 1968. Everything was normal. Then all of a sudden there she was walking among the domes on a Coptic Church. Eyewitness accounts speak of a silent lady bathed in light.

I looked at the photos and had to scratch my head.
Why where they claiming mary.

Looked to me like Yeshua himself with a Dove above him.

The Marian Doctrine is spreading through out the churches.. It is called Mother Grace.

Joseph Prince teaches the Mother Grace Doctrine.

I thought the one in Egypt was proven a hoax? Maybe I'm thinking of a different one?
