Can anyone help?

I had several "issues" with this computer at home. This morning, I e-mailed one of the techs from work and he suggested a "Refresh" (said I should do that at least once a year - I never have). So I did. What he didn't tell me is..... YOU LOOSE EVERYTHING! All the programs (including some I paid big bucks for).... GONE. My docs are here - but I can't open them because I don't have Word anymore. My photos are here but I can't see them. I somehow got online and got an internet provider (thus I'm here) but....

Do I have to re-buy and re-install all my stuff? OUCH! Or is there some way to get them back? I do have a long time of "apps removed by Refresh" but it's just a list - I see no way to reinstall.

Suggestions? Pity?

I just Googled for you and see if you can find this on your computer: C:/Windows.old directory

Your programs should still be there?

Here is a copy and paste hope it helps:

Okay... For those of you that have done the refresh, you should have noticed that you didn't free up any space on your hard drive therefore all the application files are still there. I'll try to explain it one more time for all of you.

1. When you do a "Refresh" it removes the icons from your start screen and therefore makes you assume the programs are no longer installed.

2. If you navigate to "C:/windows.old/Program Files" or "C:/windows.old/Program Files (x86)" you will find your whole "C:/Program Files" or "C:/Program Files (x86)" there. All the program files will be there.

3. So if you want to restore your programs simply move the files in that folder back to "C:/Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)".

4. After doing this most of my icons were restored to my start screen. And everything worked as it was although the programs will no longer be found in "Change or Remove Programs".

Another user in that thread said he had to log into his Microsoft Account to get his Microsoft Office to work again.

I went to MS and got all my MS office stuff back. Praise God!

Never figured how your moving file thing (I'm not a computer geek) but at least I can access MOST of my stuff now. Still working on pictures, etc.)

But my original problem - SO slow, so much so that it times out, that is still with me. I have a lot to work on. I'll take my lap to work on Monday and see what the techs can do. I just email'ed one and he knew NOTHING about "refresh."

Nice.... SO nice of you to respond back!!!!!!! I'm REALLY impressed! And blessed! Thanks!!!!!

Lord, I hate computers! And I do a LOT of my work at home, on my computer, by accessing the stuff at "work" So it's really important my "end" works. I think I got a bum steer with the "Refresh" advise....

You can reset the date on the computer to the day before you did this.

"System Restore" on Windows operating systems. I've had to use it a few times.

Josiah - For programs you had to shell out $$ for - simple suggestion - get a USB or secondary hard drive and back them up. That way if something goes wrong you won't have to buy them again, and can reinstall them. Same for important docs and other files.
