Exercise?

Just wondering if there are other hikers out there. I like to go and get lost in the woods from time to time. I say "get lost" even though I usually have at least one map and at least one GPS, not mention a good working knowledge of the local trails.

I like the kind of hikes where I can just take off and not see another person all day. The woods are so peaceful, once you get well away from the roads and just stop the silence is a wonderful thing. Sometimes you hear nothing more than the wind rustling in the trees and maybe a few animals moving about. On a good day maybe the sound of a hawk or even an eagle.

I love hiking but because of work I have no time or energy for it. I'm hoping that changes this summer though.

I need new hiking boots, what brand is recommended (waterproof too)?

My current pair are Wolverine. My last pair were Hi-Tec. Both have seen hundreds of miles of hiking. Of the two i think the hi Tec ones were more comfortable.

This summer I'm hoping to take my daughter to the Appalachian mountains to hike for a bit. I think she'll love it.

Are the parks near you free to get in? State and county parks were NOT free where I used to live but now I love it that I can just drive in without scrounging around in my purse for money to pay at the gate each time.

Yes as far as I know most are free

I hike and go on adventures in the park.
I also go to the desert and the rain forest, walk through a water fall, all neatly around the corner in the local zoo.

The state parks I've seen in central PA are designed so that it would be impossible to charge admission. They could theoretically charge to park but no way to charge people to enter.

No.
