DIVINE LAW:*
The will of God...
The righteousness of God...
What is mandated, required....
"Thou shalt be PERFECT in exactly the same way as God is PERFECT"
"Thou shalt be HOLY even as God Himself is holy."
"Thou shalt perfectly LOVE all people to the same degree that Christ loved on the Cross"
"Love God with ALL your heart, soul and mind - completely, absolutely, perfectly - always"
Unless we lie to ourselves, it makes us realize we FAIL, we DO NOT obey God, we DO NOT follow God, we DO NOT keep His Law..... we are fallen, we are criminals, we deserve His temporal and eternal punishment (death)
The Law crushes and kills and drives us to our knees.....
The Law causes one thing: Our crumbling to the ground crying, "Lord have MERCY on me."
"There is NO ONE who does good, not even one" "For ALL have sinned and fall short." "By the Law shall NO ONE be justified." "If justification were through our obedience, then Christ died for no purpose." "NO ONE will be justified by keeping the Law."
GOSPEL:
The heart of God....
The mercy of God..... (mercy = NOT getting what we DESERVE, what would be just)
The grace of God..... (grace = unconditional, unmerited, undeserved love..... gettting what we do NOT deserve, getting what someone ELSE has earned as a loving inheretence).
"For God so loved the world that ....."
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is NOT YOUR OWN DOING, it is the free gift of God."
"God justified him who has faith in Christ."
"What must we do to saved? Believe in the Savior Jesus Christ and you will be saved."
The Gospel lifts up.
The Gospel gives life - here and hereafter.
* The law has a secondary purpose FOR BELIEVERS: it also serves as a rule or guild ... showing us the will of God - although we will not ever keep it (completely - which needs we fail), but this second use does not save or justify, it rather serves similar to secular law - showing us how to live even if never completely followed.
