So many TV shows and so many films contain ideas and scenes that ought to be repugnant to a Christian's moral sense and conscience that it is a wonder to me that TVs are so common among Christians and that children in Christian homes are sometimes left to be entertained by TV ... what are your thoughts on this?

New Girl and Two Broke Girls both have indicate that society thinks casual sex is okay and that really bothers me.

society has not had a peoblm with that for a long time, there is getting to be a bigger divide between what the word says and what culture accepts. Sadly a lot of it has come into the church

society has not had a problem with that for a long time, there is getting to be a bigger divide between what the word says and what culture accepts. Sadly a lot of it has come into the church

Do you think it comes into church through TV exposure by the people who go to the meetings?

For many reasons that being one. It is also a letting down of what we believe so socirty will accept us and you can see where that has led the church and society in general. Its sad that with the state of this nation people are still defiant and refuse to see how far we have falllen. Abortion is a good issue to see this. We have many christians that accept this now as ok and its not, it is murder. Can Gods word be any clearer? It states that He knew us before we were in the womb, it also states that God has a plan for us, each and every one of us. This nation is being judged and people dont even realize it, it is just luck or fate or whatever off the wall thing they care to believe in at the time

Do you think that the elders and pastor of these churches ought to discipline people engaging in flagrant immorality when they become aware of it? If so what sort of discipline ought they apply? Is it possible that some leaders are afraid of the consequences if they do discipline?

Of course they should but only after the person has an opportunity to deal with it and as to how the bible is clear on that. But it must be done in love and only with facts, not gossip or innuendo

Biblical disipline, does not the bible tell us how to deal with brothers and sisters? Yopu go to them two or three and it goes from there depending on the response. If still unbelievers then it is just counseling because presumably they are not members of the church

On what basis? I am not sure I understand the question. Noone I know of uses this but it is what was laid out to be church discipline

The one church I go to has used this only to the point of talking to the person and is the only time I have ever known it to be used. Whether it is or not it is the biblical basis for all chruch discipline, not using it does not excuse it.

Okay, I saw that when you first said it. I was curious to know how discipline occurred in Word of Faith meetings. In the Catholic Church there have been some recent excommunications that received public news reports and occasionally the news reports on various forms of Church discipline applied within the Catholic Church to high profile people. Of course, what the Catholic Church does is often thwarted by the person being disciplined simply renouncing their Catholic faith and joining a more accommodating religion.

Dont disagree with this and while Word of Faith I am also charasmatic and pentecostal thuis a non denom chruch, I also belong to and go to a Methodist church. While each church of faith sets its own rules and follows its dictates I think the Catholic church needs to allow its priests to marry and then it might not have some of the problems it does. If my understanding is correct theyw ere alolowed to marry for a long time till it was forbidden

Let's not get into stereotypes about celibacy among Latin rite priests. Catholic priests in numerous Eastern rites do marry if they want (provided that they marry before becoming priests). The truth is that no person is forbidden marriage because no person is compelled to take a vow of celibacy unless they desire to do so because they want to be a monk, nun, sister, or priest etcetera. Such vocations are voluntary and one needs to be called to it both by the Church and by personal conviction that God has called you to that role within the Church. Complaining about priestly celibacy in the Latin rite of the Catholic Church is akin to complaining that Pentecostal pastors ought to speak in tongues. Anyway I reckon that this is getting away from the influence of TV on Christians ...

Yes, most programming has become a tool to influence many. Multiple forms of media has been used under the guise of entertainment.

Ok obviously TV has a huge influence on people as most do watch and a lotofpeople watch a lot of tv
