meh.. random figures to make a point lol.

Sure, but it just enhances the point that in some areas $300k buys you most of the town and in other areas $300k buys a parking space.

mind you that whole mindset of them being "thier members" is not biblical based .
neither is hiring a man to do all the work that all deciples are supposed to be doing . its no wonder pastors burn out at a phenomenal rate im told

Sure, although I suspect another part of that is when people expect their pastors to be superhuman and perfect in every way.

i don't disagree - but do remember i was referring to "certain" types " who do use the work of the gospel as a means to profit by becaseu that becomes thier motive for doing that work .

This is what bothers me as well.

But we don't judge the preaching of the gospel by judging the motive of the preacher for preaching. We need to rejoice that the Gospel of the Kingdom is being preached. :)

Providing the preacher is living it. Many a church and members have fallen because theuy follow a preacher and not Christ and unbeklievers see what a person lives and when they see a phony it turns them away from the kingdom

What does that have to do with whether you fire the preacher because he has become rich? But, I agree we should all live the life we preach or sing about. We are the only Jesus people see.

You dont fire the preacher for becoming rich but if you see signs of greed or pride or selfishness then you maybe need to speak to him and if the behavior isnt changed then perhaps you should think about removing him

And what signs of greed, pride, or selfishness are you speaking about?

The problem I always see is that the preachers getting rich off those books sell a "me theology" instead of a theology of the cross. I cringe when I see some of their work.

I agree with the cringe factor. But,should the preacher get fired because the books sells well and he became rich from the sales ?

what? A question I cant specifically answer because it would depend on the eprson, on the circumstance, his demeanor, and many subtle things

No, what types of things do you see in general, not specific. for instance, do you look at the preachers house, or car and judge that as greedy? Is he selfish because he does not announce what he is doing for charity? When you say his "demeanor" what demeanor ia unacceptable?

As for demeanor I am talking about being proud which can show a couple of ways, by speech, by a change in how he intereacts with people, as for his house and car I dont think a opreacher should be poor but I also think that say a 50,000 dollar car or even cheaper will be as good as something that costs hundreds of thousands, that is mojney thta can be used to help people. A nice house is fine as well butnoone needs a mansion

So, are any of these reasons to fire the rich preacher? I am missing your point or meaning.

Thats a good question though..

In your op you ask should we fire a preacher because he is rich..? Well obviously that alone is not grounds to fire
him or anyone.

But this question of how could we define the presence of ungodly attributes?which would warrant dismissing him from the office for possible ill character in the sphere of finances... Is interesting.
Can we look at that some more....

By all means yes! Let's look at it some more! I am having trouble understanding the concept of preachers/pastors should not be rich and show it, but others can be rich and show it. It just sounds like a double standard to me.

i guess it would be defined by excess .. i recall that those in positions of servanthood (today it erroneously gets called leadership) are to walk to a "higher" standard then others due to the fact that notoriety can cause the to be observed more then the rest of us .therefore they are under a greater responsibility to not bring shame to the Gospel.
and lets be honest- it is the mega rich which have been observed doing that the most . materialistically thinking - living righteously and justly is defined not by the things we have but what we do with the things we have . ie - if one man has 20 loaves of bread and a man is at his door who has none .. and knowing this he does nothing about it .he is acting unjustly -he is hording his excess unto himself .
so perhaps if we see this pastor budget cutting and skimping on missions funding or local society good works ..yet always demanding inflationary salary increases while already having ample sufficiency already -- we would perhaps want to look closer into that . ?

or there is the case where they brought a private jet and then justified it as needing some where private to pray (becaseu thier multi million dollar house doesnt have enough "closets " or somthing ) ..that would warrant looking into .

I guess the part that is difficult is that the congregation that would have the power to remove the preacher from his position are likely to be a congregation that approves of the preacher's message. If the preacher is getting rich promoting the "me theology" (or other theological toxic waste) then the chances are the congregation support it or they wouldn't be in the congregation. Hence, the preacher continues to benefit, the congregation continue to lap up the candy coated garbage he presents, and the situation perpetuates.

Aside from the church though. If the preacher was not rich, but he wrote a book or series of books and the books sold well. The preacher made millions and became rich Do you fire him if he buys himself a million dollar mansion and a Cadilac with his own money that he earned off of his books? He gives to charity but does it in secretly. He does not shout it from the housetops.

I see what you are saying when it comes to the business of the kingdom. But I am not talking about that.
