This isn't really a post about theology, per se, but this seems the best place for this post. Evidently, the NIV turns 50 this year as it was first commissioned in 1965. I have belonged to several Christian forums over the years, and on one of the forums I "met" a man who was on the committee in the early 1980's. Personally, I "came of age" on the NIV and it was wildly popular back then. It is still my primary version simply because the language is natural to me.

So we celebrate 50 years of the NIV. Here are a couple of very short videos:

I am King James personally but whatever version draws you closer to the Word.

So what is the difference between "washing your robes" and "keeping the commandments"?

Appears to ME that the ESV has pretty much displaced the NIV.... not sure why, however.

The NIV is the second most-read version of the Bible in the United States, after the King James.

iv learnt to cross reference more then 2 versions ...
love the KJV ..for dinner time bible reading though i use the NLT as my audience did not grow up on KJV .
NIV is a study bible and i would not recommend it to a new beleiver unless they are first trained in how to read it and pay attention to the notations in the columns etc .

I prefer the more literal translations. I figure the less paraphrasing the better but I'm not a NIV hater :sly:
