Hi everyone. It's real cold here. I have turned up the heat. There's a draft in here from the windows. Just hobblin around here. Having some coffee to wake up.

A nice hot beverage really does make one more comfortable. I hope everyone stays warm.

Yes, it really does. I got the heat cranked up now. Staying warm and so are my varmints.

I love hiking but have never done a 20 +miler before! Yikes.

I'm hoping this summer to hike in the Appalachians with my daughter but I doubt we'll go past 10 miles :D

I've done a few that were 10 miles or more. My longest was 26 miles across the south of England. That was a challenge. I planned some longer hikes in the mountains but always have a bail plan in case trails disappear on me. One time I was within half a mile of the car but the trail petered out and it took me over an hour to figure out how to get back to the car. That was interesting, in fading light.

It's about 20 degrees here. The central heating keeps us warm.

Yesterday I got to drive in near white out conditions. That was an experience.

I was on the shoreway during a white out once and I coudn't see a thing. I had to guess where the exit was at to get off the freeway. Luckily I guessed right and got off and back into the regular streets where I pulled over and breathed a sigh of relief.

I've driven in really bad weather before and you really need to keep your wits about you to make it through!

Ruth, you did the right thing and you're here to tell the tale now :)

I had a good experience this morning. First of all my electric window wouln't roll back up and I had to take it to the shop. The guy estimated it would cost between $85. and $150. Then he told me they would take the door panel off and let me take it home that way so that they could order the part and have me come back and pick up a rental and they would fix it for $250. I was waiting for them to take the panel off so I could go home with it and it took some time and I was wondering what was taking them so long. Then the owner came up to me and petted Suzy. I asked him if I would be able to close my door with the panel off and he said you can close your door and do anything with it and it's fixed, a wire was just loose. I asked him what I owed him and he said nothing, we have a discount for Shih Tsus today. Isn't that nice!! :)

Yes, it made my whole week actually!! My faith in people has been restored. Had I taken it to this other shop they would have charged me $500. and lied what was wrong with it.

I nearly took an exit by mistake because about all I had to go on was lane markings about 50 feet ahead.

Essentially it's just a matter of driving at a safe speed for the conditions even if that means 15mph.

Years ago I was driving through upstate New York in the snow. 30mph felt like I was on the edge but people were steaming past me. At the next bend there was an SUV upside down in the ditch. As a friend of ours always said, having four wheel drive helps you go but doesn't necessarily help you stop.

My biggest fear driving in bad conditions is that there often seems to be some knucklehead driving at 85 through the thick fog. If you encounter someone like that all bets are off.
