That makes a lot of sense, but at the same time the more people do shop at Wally World because cash is tight, the more people will have to shop there because cash is tight for everyone.

Large chain stores suck cash out of communities whereas with smaller chains and independent stores the money is more likely to stay in the community. It just needs a good number of people to play the same game, and maybe buy fewer things rather than trying to have everything at a knock-down price. In many ways it's like when governments create inflation - in the early days everybody benefits and nobody pays but in the later days everybody pays and nobody benefits.

Well, when you are poor you have little choice.

Sure, although buying fewer things is an option at least some of the time.

The sad thing about stores like Wally World is that they tend to push people into out-of-town shopping, which increasingly means you need to have a car to go shopping at all. For those on restricted budgets that creates an expense that really doesn't help.

I just happened to save some money for Christmas this year. There are local places in my neighborhood to shop, too, and going to WalMart is actually out of the way for me. I did some of my shopping online this year, too.

Wal-Mart is popular and a household name, but there are other discount stores that offer low prices for the frugal. I like to shop at Roses for toiletries and hair care products.

Most of my shopping was done online. I had no time to run out.

Roses is the old school discount store, kind of like Woolworths without the lunch counter.

We used to have Woolworths in England, but they went bust a few years ago. It's funny, the number of people who thought it was a disgrace that they were "allowed to fail" was remarkable, yet if half of those people actually bought anything from Woolworths they wouldn't have failed. They were really known for pick-n-mix and selling a bunch of random cheap junk. Sometimes you could get really good deals there, if you could be bothered to look for them.

I was a poor art student when I'd visit the Woolworths. It was just a neat place to go sometimes. That and Grant Park to ditch class. Oops

I used to hang out there during my lunch breaks when I was at school, largely on the basis there wasn't a whole lot else to do in town. My friends and I would hang out at Woolworths or one of the many record shops in town. We generally had little if any money so we'd just loiter around, and very occasionally buy something. Usually the pick-n-mix from Woolworths, before we realised what a con it was.

I enjoyed Woolworths like I enjoy Roses now.Good prices on makeup, toiletries, and cheap costume jewelry. LOL.

The two go together... If I'm busy to the point of being stressed it's not surprising if the person who creates a needless delay gets the brunt of it. It's just sad that talking to someone seems to count as a needless delay at all.
