Less than 2 weeks away now. What else do you guys need to do to prepare?

I have to decide if I really want to travel out of town for Christmas Eve. I don't feel up to it right now.

Not much, very low key this year. Just not a lot to work with money wise so just enjoying the lights and all the festivities that are free this year

Ooh yes, free is awesome. The next town near us usually has a drive thru light display that's fun to do!

I always hated driving to relatives' houses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Now that we don't live near most and others have passed away, in a small way I miss it. A small way. I still prefer staying home.

AMEN! I usually travel to the coast at Christmas time, but I doubt if I go this year. Maybe my son will come here.

I am under a doctor's treatment and experiencing some problems with sleeping a lot now. I don't feel I'll be able to make it to the Christmas Eve get together. I know Judy will be disappointed and even may get mad at me. I can't help how others react. I just want to be here with my Suzy and birdies.

Buy food, buy presents, figure out what we're doing and who we're doing it with. Pretty much everything, except decorate the house.

Well, you've certainly got a lot to do. My place is decorated already, with a small tree and lights in my window. I have bought almost all presents but 2.

My parents had a cardboard fireplace when I was a child and even though it was cheesy I loved that stupid thing. Did anyone else have it? My mom and dad even taped our stockings to it.

Not too many where I live have lights in the window but the ones that do are so pretty. I love the smell of pine and cookies baking!

No, I never heard of a cardboard fireplace until now. It sounds cute, though.

Buying presents is easy, my wife and I tend to buy for each other and a few token presents for selected family members and friends. We only get token presents, and make sure people know they'll get token presents, because it avoids embarrassment if one person buys something really nice and the other buys something that's funny but cheap. We had one particular section of the family where my wife used to spend a lot of time (and not a small amount of money) choosing something nice for each individual person, and we got back an aggregate present that was a load of stuff that was kind of fun but the sort of thing that generated a bit of a giggle for a few minutes and was soon forgotten. That didn't happen very many times before we started to send cards to individuals and token presents for selected individuals.

Food is easy enough. I'm hoping my brother can come out and join us, just waiting to hear back from him. He's travelling, so depending on where in the country he is he may or may not be able to join us.

Token presents is what I usually do. Things that don't cost a whole lot. But this year I have spent more than in the past 10 years as I've given gifts of cash to several relatives especially those who really need it. It didn't break me as I've been saving all year.

The next thing I'm going to do is file bankruptcy.

As siblings (and in-law siblings) get older it's harder to buy for them! We all mostly want gift cards. I'm just not really into receiving gifts anymore and shopping is no fun at all.

Yes, it is hard but there are some nice things you can get. Gift cards? I got one last year for some coffee and haven't used it yet. lol. I'm sorry you feel that way about getting gifts and shopping.

Shopping can be fun at any time! :) I used to enjoy shopping for Christmas, looking at all the items to choose from, comparing prices, getting gift wrap or decorated bags, etc.

Yes, I love to shop but it does seem as if all the rude people come out during this season

I guess it depends on where you shop. There aren't any rude people where I go.

Shopping was part of the fun of Christmas. Now, everyone is gone, so, not so much for me anymore.I can get kind of melancholy thinking of when my children were children. It seems like children and Christmas just go together like peanut butter and jelly. And when you have one without the other you know something is missing. So I hope you all will bear with and indulge my melancholy for a few moments.
