Voting Diversity Above Ability?

I've seen too many memes already on Facebook that speak of the candidate they want to vote for...because she's a woman and black. I haven't seen anything about what she's done for 4 years as VP.

Isn't that a dangerous thing to do to vote for someone based upon how they look and their gender?

I think it is a dangerous thing to do. I would vote for a woman, but the right one to me has not run (not thinking of anyone in particular). I believe that is how Obama was elected too. His race.

This why I wondered at the time if it wasn't a mistake on Trump's part to take JD Vance for VP instead of Tim Scott, Byron Donalds, or Ben Carson for his running mate. Even if he had to make his choice ahead of the Dems, there was no question that Kamala would be Biden's running mate.

I doubt it is unusual for a person to vote for someone because of the color of their skin or sex. People tend to do that if they think the person can relate to their experiences. Even as a therapist, I have seen people who are of another race who don't want a white therapist because they don't think I can relate to their issues. It is unfortunate, but perception is powerful

I remember during the Obama/McCain campaigns it was interesting to see that the variations of "I don't want no (expletive) (racial slur) in the White House" were decried as racist and yet variations of "it's about time we had a black president" were not.

I can't see how either of them are anything other than racist. It's about time we had a competent president, whatever their race, gender, sexuality etc.

They constantly repudiate the "dream" of Rev. Dr. MARTIN LUTHER King, Jr. by stressing that was matters is the color of skin (or the gender identification of the person) NOT character or integrity or ability.

Racism and sexism seems to play to their advantage, perhaps.

Off topic, I admit.... but I find it weird that Liberals will stretch to play the race card. President Obama for example was constantly said to be Black. But as we all know, he was HALF Black. The Liberals just wanted/needed to repudiate/ignore his mother (who was White), the mother that actually raised him, she was ignored, repudiated, unclaimed. He was BLACK, not part or half Black... not White/Black. They wanted to run a BLACK so they did.

Same with Harris. She is HALF Black. Her father was Indian (considered White) but that's ignored, repudiated, rejected, unclaimed.

Why?

Trump's amazing comments about Harris' race today were certainly inappropriate and stupid - he seems often determined to shoot himself in the foot and offend potential voters. Here he has been making SMALL gains among Blacks, now with this.... Why does he do things like this? As I often have thought, Trump is good when he acts on policies and horrific when he opens his mouth.

His slam that Harris USED to be Asian but NOW is Black is well.... She has always been HALF Black and HALF Asian, she is a blend of two different races, a mixture; she is Asian-Black. Now, in Trump's defense (if there is one), it is increasingly common for people to deny they are a mixture. Obama called himself Black even though all knew he was HALF Black (his father, who deserted him, was African but not African-American). People it seems can claim whatever HALF they want. This may be seen as repudiating their other half (or at least denying or ignoring it) - setting aside one parent. But sometimes it's just political. If one is HALF Black and applying or a job or scholarship, it's politically advantageous to just call yourself Black and deny one parent and half of your heritage. I wonder if that's the case with Harris. When she was running in San Francisco where Asians outnumber Blacks, it was probably politically advantageous to call herself Asian (and deny her Black parent) but when she ran for VP where the US has a lot more Blacks than Asians... well....

I agree with Trump that all of us should be proud of our heritage (not just half of it) and honest about that. Just because someone is 1/358th American Native doesn't make them American Native, it makes them 1/356th Native American. If one has a full Black mother and full White father, that makes them HALF Black, HALF White. They should be honest.... there's good reason to be proud of our heritage. Of course, there's St. Patrick's Day in the US where EVERYONE is 100% Irish but that's another thing.

Trump needs to shut up about Harris' races and gender. This is about ISSUES. When Trump talks ISSUES, he does well. But his name calling, weird comments, etc. just hurts him.

When Biden stepped down from the race, there was an opportunity to take the high road and say something nice about the guy who called him after he got shot and said kind words. I agree that he says things that get him in trouble, but it's often because the opposition successfully baits him. That's what was done in that meeting of the Black Journalists, right from the get-go. Still, he ought to have known to be especially careful on that occasion and also that what he might say had better not be something that's easily misrepresented or misquoted by the mainstream media and the other political party. That's exactly what happened, just as it has happened before.

In addition, Trump often talks in a tongue-in cheek or sarcastic matter, but then he's quoted by his enemies as if the words were meant in some other way.

He did repeatedly say kind things about the other people who got shot and also about the secret service personnel who might have easily been criticized, but in principle I sympathize with your point.

On the other hand, it might be noted that Biden announced the "no more attack stuff, we need to unify the country," etc. only then to ignore it; and what followed was the gimmickry of Biden quitting in favor of Kamala and both the Democratic primaries and upcoming convention being made of no effect. No wonder that the Trump staff think they've been "had" by a carefully thought-out scheme that's unprecedented in our history.
