Still way too hot to run so I did a walk instead. An hour in the sun was enough for me to come home soaked with sweat and needing time to cool off and rehydrate. Now I"m sitting with the air conditioning running enjoying the coolness.

Finally got the insulation panels finished off in my work room. One offcut was about 1/2" too small to fit perfectly into a space in the adjacent room that I haven't finished panelling yet - it's going to be a bathroom so there's a bit more work to be done yet. Not least moving the big stack of chestnut studs out of the way so I can continue to work in there.

I'm not sure whether to focus on putting the rest of the flooring material in place or soundproofing the room next. I'm leaning towards flooring, so I can get more stuff out of the way and have a bit more space to work.

Rather annoyingly I came to realise that some of the lumber I bought to make studs for the room below is no good to me, as I bought 8' material and I have 9' high ceilings. So there's some wood there that is surplus, for now at least. I'll probably find a use for it when I get some more work done in the basement, so it's not a total waste. I haven't yet worked out how I'm going to get 15 pieces of 10' 2x12 home from the lumber yard. I have carried 2x12s on the roof of my car once before, and resolved that I won't be doing that again.

Looking forward to a lazy afternoon. My suggested workout today was a VO2 max intensity workout but since I haven't done any anaerobic work for a month or more because of the heat I decided to do harder but shorter repeats, pushing the primary benefit up from VO2 max to anaerobic. My legs refused to do all-out sprints up the hills today so I went for speed repeats, maintaining a slightly slower pace for longer.

It was a hard enough workout to register a new lactate threshold, which interestingly is slightly improved on the measurement from early in June. I'm not sure how, given I've done almost no exercise at this level of intensity since then. I think it's down to the vagaries of how it processes (or doesn't process) gradients. I suspect if I were to do anaerobic work on a track it would register significantly better numbers.

I went to a local craft show this afternoon. It's one my wife in particular looks forward to visiting. The forecast was for relatively mild weather today when compared to the rest of the week so we chose today. It seemed smaller than previous years, which is a shame because it was only a couple of years ago they moved to a larger venue to accommodate more vendors.

We chatted with a few vendors we've visited a few times. One of them sells some really nice artwork, and we've visited her several times but never bought anything because we haven't had wall space. Today we figured out where a piece we've looked at every year for several years can go, and brought it home with us.

So we spent a little bit of time this evening moving some pictures to smaller spaces to make room for it. We're probably going to move more stuff around tomorrow because we'd rather put it in the room where we spend the most time.

Have a lot of craft shows gotten smaller where you are? I have been to a few where I live, but not in a couple of years. They're really really tiny in numbers of true craft vendors. I'm used to larger amounts back in the Midwest.

There is a steady trend of things shrinking, it would appear.

My wife and I used to sell stuff at craft fairs - more as a hobby turned into a bit of income than anything else. We found the general trend was that takings would decline over time and as we gradually dropped shows from our list because they weren't worth the trouble any more we reached a point we wondered if it was worth bothering at all. Then covid put paid to them for us, and we never really got back into it again.

The show we went to yesterday used to be a really good show. Then it moved to a bigger area so it could expand, but this year it was visibly smaller. A few of the vendors we often see weren't there, and there weren't as many vendors overall. This particular one has a small number of sponsor companies that offer home improvements and realty services and aside from that the craft vendors are actual crafters.

A lot of the smaller shows end up being little more than another mishmash of the Paparazzi rep, the Usborne books rep, the Mary Kay rep, the Pink Zebra rep, the Scentsy rep and so on. Not only does it make it very hard for the genuine crafter to sell much it also makes the entire show a waste of time to visit because anyone who is interested in the direct sales reps probably already has one or can find one without the show.

I got up later than usual and saw that the temps were lower, but when I opened the door, it was really humid outside. I'm not going hiking today.ugh.

I haven't been hiking in a while, it's too hot. Walking and running, when the weather isn't hideous, are my go-to things until it cools down a bit. The last couple of days were OK for running although the heat was a bit intense. Today will probably be a walk.

Long walk today. It was hotter than I expected so I called my wife to bring me some more water about half way around.

Getting ready to drive an hour so my husband can get some warranty work done on his new vehicle. I'm his ride home while it's being done because he doesn't like waiting.

Fun With Cryptosystems.

More specifically spending more time than I really should have done to figure out the reason even the simple two-line demo program wouldn't compile was because I had an old version of a library installed. To fix it I had to uninstall it through one method, then install the correct version via a completely different method, then cross my fingers that it didn't break anything else.

So far it seems to be working as expected, which is always a plus. And now I have a very basic implementation working. Next step is to do something more useful than encrypt and decrypt between fields on a form, and build it into something more productive. These libraries are handy - they incorporate all sorts of algorithms so I can pick whatever is most suited to the task at hand.

I'm waiting for the roofer to come by and drop off some shingles samples so I can pick the right color. I did it online with the previewer, but monitor screens aren't accurate compared to the real samples.
