What tire brand do you recommend? I'm getting new Continental tires today and they're the kind my husband has, so that's why we're getting them. What brand do you favor?

I had Yokohamas on my car. The same set lasted me several years so when they were down into the yellow zone where they are still legal but close to the threshold, and winter was fast approaching, I had them swapped out with four new Yokohamas.

I wouldn't say I particularly insist on them, I've just had a good experience with them so would tend to choose them again. If I couldn't get them, or the prices were silly, I'd look at other brands.

I suspect this year my wife will need hers replaced. I'm not sure what she has on her car. Probably Yokohamas.

I bought a set of Douglas tires a while back. They're technically made by Goodyear, but they're like their budget brand exclusively sold at Walmart. The tires have gotten worn pretty quickly, so I'll probably spend a little bit more money this next time.

Do you remember how many thousands of miles you were supposed to get with that brand?

The brand probably doesn't have anything to do with it, in as much as every manufacturer has a range of different tires in its line-up. Some of them are meant to give long wear, others perform better in certain weather, etc. But all of these companies identify these characteristics online.

If you don't drive very many miles it's also worth considering if there's an age rating on the tires too. For my purposes once a tire is expected to last more than about 50,000 miles it makes little difference, since I usually only drive 4-5,000 miles in a year. My car is already 13 years old and although I hope it will still be going strong at 23 years old there's minimal benefit to me paying extra for tires that will still have lots of tread when it's 33 years old.

Looks like I've got a 50,000 limited tread warranty. Not sure how that works, but I'm definitely not going to make it to 50k.
