Without naming any particular sin, I would like to note that in the Old Testament sin is very well defined. Missing the mark. And the mark is laid out in the law of God. That most clearly defined in the Mosaic Law.

But, interestingly enough, in the New Testament, sin is defined as anything not of faith. (Rom. 14:23) "And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin."

In other words, two people can be sitting at the table eating the same food. One has doubts about it and eats anyway. The other has no doubts about it and eats. To the one who doubts, it is sin. To the one who doesn't, it is not sin.

In a sense, we simply live in and as sin. Sin means "missing the mark" and the "mark" is perfection.... being as loving as God is loving, as morally perfect as God is morally perfect. So even the good we do is, well, less than it should be.
