USA Barron Trump’s time to step into the political spotlight

It will soon be Barron Trump’s time to step into the political spotlight.

Trump, former President Donald Trump’s youngest child, who will graduate from high school next week and has largely been kept out of the political spotlight, was picked by the Republican Party of Florida on Wednesday night as one of the state’s at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention, according to a list of delegates obtained by NBC News.

“We have a great delegation of grassroots leaders, elected officials and even Trump family members,” Florida GOP chairman Evan Power said. “Florida is continuing to have a great convention team, but more importantly we are preparing to win Florida and win it big.”

Trump’s position as a delegate will be his highest-profile political role thus far.

In a family full of politically involved children, Barron Trump, who turned 18 in March, has retained much more of a private life than his older brothers, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., both of whom will also be Florida at-large RNC delegates, along with Trump’s daughter Tiffany.

Why would you use the word dictatorial?

There are other families who are involved in politics, the Kennedy family comes to mind. Would you use the same term for them as well? How about the Clintons?

Is it any more "dictatorial dynasty" than former President Bill Clinton's wife becoming secretary of state and a presidential candidate in her own right, or former presidet George H W Bush's son becoming governor of Texas and then president in his own right?

Is it any less appropriate than the people clamoring for Michelle Obama to stand for president, or hoping Chelsea Clinton will enter politics?

Personally I'd like to see the two-term limit expanded to include spouses and a restriction on close family members that would prevent sons, daughters, siblings etc from presidential office for a period after a relative vacated the office. So Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush etc would be permanently excluded from the presidency based on their husbands having already served two terms. If Trump loses in 2024 then his wife would be eligible to stand but only for one term; if he wins she would be permanently excluded. Likewise Jill Biden could serve one term if Joe loses in 2024 but would be permanently excluded if he wins.

Children and siblings would be excluded for a period matching the time their immediate family member served. So Chelsea Clinton would be free to stand, as would George Bush's children and Barack Obama's children, but Biden's children would be barred until 2028 if he loses in 2024, or 2036 if he wins (Dad served 8 years, so children can't serve for 8 years after he left office).

LOL. I hope that comment was supposed to be sarcasm.

Both of those are party offices. And the previous Republican Party chair was Mitt Romney's niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel. That didn't seem to launch a "dictatorial dynasty."

As was noted by others before me, this sort of thing is not uncommon in politics. The Democratic Party found a US Senate seat in New York for Bill Clinton's wife, who had never before been a resident of New York, and later got her appointed Secretary of State.
