I've always been a hardwood lover, but we have carpeting at this house that was in perfect condition when we moved in, and since it's the two of us with no pets, it's still looking amazing. No sense in spending thousands of dollars to change it yet. I use a shampooer on it every few years.

We have hardwood or tile floors everywhere. It's COLD and HARD and NOISY.

Carpeting is not easy to keep clean and is not as sanitary but personally, I think I prefer it - at least in some areas.

We have mostly hardwood floors, although some rooms are carpeted. It's nice to have something warm underfoot in the wintertime, but in the summertime it makes less difference.

One room I refurbished had a huge rug in the middle of the floor that turned out to cover a really badly done staining and varnishing job. When I refurbished the room I scraped and sanded the floor, then lacquered it. The bit that hadn't been stained was a nasty faded gray but once I'd sanded it everything turned golden. It looks really nice with three coats of lacquer on it.

Hardwood in the living area with tile in the bathrooms and carpet in the bedrooms. I would prefer wood throughout the house.

Easier to clean is one reason to prefer wood.

I prefer carpet in the bedrooms, but we have laminate plank in the living space and tile in the bathrooms due to pets. 100% preference for tile in the bathrooms, carpet is just icky to have there.

Carpet in the bathroom.... yick. Had that when I was a child. It didn't last long before my parents got rid of it. Having two young boys in the house - ahem - learning to aim and a carpet on the floor.... not a good combo.

Hardwood/LVP because of allergies. Dust gets caught in the carpet and vacuuming on stirs it up. If you have allergies due to dust mites then Hardwood floors can make a difference.

Oh, hardwood is the way to go. I will never live in a house or condo with carpeting if I can avoid it. So much easier to take care of hardwood floors and you don’t have to worry if you spill something. If you don’t want the bare feeling of hardwood just buy some rugs. Only hardwood and tile for me with a few rugs.

IMO, there's the irony. LOTS do as we do... folks with tile and hardwood... cover it up with rugs. Something to counter the COLD, HARD, NOISY floors.
