Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Donald Trump.

He quit ahead of the Republican primary election in New Hampshire, where he was polling in the single digits.

Mr DeSantis was once considered a strong contender for the party's nomination - but on Sunday he said he did not "have a clear path to victory".

DeSantis lost way before Iowa. His attack on Disney, his support of book bans, his stance on LGBTQ was enough to make moderates and independents to stay away from him. Now, he will have the remainder of his term as Governor of Florida and, unless he changes or subverts the states Constitution, he will fade into obscurity.

What are your thoughts about him dropping out?

It could be that it wasn't about HIM but more about people feeling Trump would make a better President?

It's not because of any of those ^ things. Definitely not.

However, later in the article you're working from we come to some of the actual reasons--

"Looking back at the campaign, experts said it was an almost impossible election cycle for a relative newcomer to the national stage. Mr DeSantis was essentially running against an incumbent, with name recognition, limitless money and a committed base of voters."

Those, and a certain lack of charisma, which was also mentioned in the article.

Trump is much farther enslaved to the Jew controlled establishment than DeSantis. Of course he will get the nomination ahead of his rivals. His family is Jewish, his words are 100% pro Israel and he owes his fortune to the Jews, which, by the way, control Disney and are the driving force for LGBTQ and "covid vaccines", which Trump endorsed.

Those are exactly the reasons that us Floridians like him.

It is purely nonsense talk to think he would change the constitution to stay in office. The most likely scenario is for him to challenge Rubio or Scott for Senate. Scott would be a easy enough candidate to beat, DeSantis is far more popular and liked throughout the state than Scott is. This also keeps him in national politics and for a possible future Presidential campaign.

Shocker, the Blatantly Biased Corporation dislikes a right-wing candidate and looks for reasons to discredit him.

It doesn't seem like a hugely outrageous stance to limit discussions of sex and gender related things in elementary schools. When kids are older they can learn about that sort of thing but is it so much to ask to let little boys and little girls be little boys and little girls without worrying about who they might choose as a partner later in life or how they might like to change their bodies later in life? I remember during my childhood thinking girls were icky - it was pretty normal for boys to think of girls as icky, and presumably girls of that age felt the same way about boys. Nowadays that's probably considered "evidence" someone is gay.

Him dropping out simply means he doesn't think he's likely to win and doesn't want to expend huge resources on a race he's not likely to win. I'm not sure how dropping out of a race means he will "fade into obscurity", or why the BBC feels the need to comment about subverting the constitution. Even if he does fade into obscurity, that's what happens to most people over time. Do people outside of any given state remember who was governor of the state before the current one, if they even know the current governor? Aside from a few high profile state governors I don't know I could tell you very many of them - to give an example I have no idea who is the governor of Missouri right now let alone who their predecessors were.

Exactly. I'm fascinated by the way some of these publications do it. They start off with their particular slant, completely divorced from reality. AND THEN, somewhat later in the article, they make a concession to balancing the analysis by telling us what "experts said," which as it turns out is completely different!

i'm thinking that he is relatively young and will have a chance again in 4 years. Maybe even a better chance than now. In the meantime, he is still a governor of an important state

I can't imagine him running again, at least not seriously. Guess he could be the Chris Christie type of guy that runs just for fun every other cycle, but it's hard to see the majority ever aligning with him. There's a reason why Haley gained so much ground on him, and that's because of his lack of charisma.
