Fruitcake

Fruitcake or fruit cake is a cake made with candied or dried fruit, nuts, and spices, and optionally soaked in spirits. In the United Kingdom, certain rich versions may be iced and decorated. Fruitcakes are usually served in celebration of weddings and Christmas.

I love it. My mother used to make an incredibly rich fruitcake that I'd look forward to every year.

I think I have the recipe somewhere but it won't be the same if I make it. Maybe I'll see how it turns out if I do, if I can find all the ingredients.

Totally this! When I was little I tasted the garbage storebought ones and thought bleh. But then I was introduced to a soft, tasty, yummy homemade one. It's not something I would request, because I'm really not a huge cake eater, but the homemade ones are not even close to the storebought ones.

A friend of my parents used to make cakes semi-professionally. I tried one of her cakes and really didn't care for it. It had the same taste and texture as the ones I'd expect to find in a store. It tasted fake. It was awkward trying to figure a way to say that I really didn't need a fruitcake for Christmas. given how much I love fruitcake.
