Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida told CNN on Sunday that his mentor-turned-rival Donald Trump is too old to be president.

"The presidency is not a job for somebody that's pushing 80 years old," DeSantis said of Trump, who celebrated his 77th birthday in June.

"I just think that that's something that has been shown with Joe Biden," DeSantis continued, referencing President Joe Biden, who turns 81 on Monday. "Father Time is undefeated. Donald Trump is not exempt from any of that."

DeSantis went on to say that his own age would make him a better GOP presidential candidate.

IMO, chronological age, per se, has nothing to do with competence. Indeed, if I had my way, the minimum ages for office in our Constitution would be eliminated. But a person can be too immature and/or mentally or physically incompetent regardless of chronological age.

I am NO FAN of either Trump or Biden (I've never voted for either of them). It does SEEM that Biden is negatively impacted by his age and that Trump is not. But I have no professional qualifications to determine that and I've never even personally met either of them; I'd be more likely to rely on the opinion of qualified professionals who have carefully and personally examined them.

It certainly looks like age hasn't been kind to Biden, especially when it seems growing numbers of Democrats are saying he shouldn't run again.

So far Trump seems less affected but if he is re-elected he'll be the wrong side of 80 by the time his term is over, and it's hard to know if he will be similarly affected during the course of his term.

During the last election Trump kept harping on about Biden being too old. Now that Trump is around the same age Biden was then he‘s acting like he thinks he’s a spring chicken. Uh.no Trump it doesn’t work that way.

Yeah, but how much is Trump paying his doctors to say what he wants them to say?

Obviously not, since it's not merely because of the number of years each man has been alive. I believe that both Democrats and Republicans know that the real issue is the mental and physical ability of the person to perform the duties required of a president.

Can you even imagine Biden making it for five more years, given how he is at present? THAT's what anyone who wants Biden re-elected has to face up to.

I doubt I’ll vote for either of them. But certainly not Trump.

You could just as easily ask the same question about Biden, given he appears to be far more impaired than Trump.

True. I trust few to no politicians.
