Missing Black people in California will have a specialized alert notification after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill creating the "Ebony Alert".

IMO, this is causing more segregation. It's redundant and confusing. Amber Alerts apply to ALL missing children, regardless of skin color.

What are your thoughts about this “Ebony Alert”?

More focus on race for the sake of avoiding doing anything useful. Par for the course.

The Democrat Party in California is supersaturated with racism and sexism... as is Liberalism in general. What matters - more than anything - is the color of one's skin and whether one currently identifies as the gender of (what is gender?).

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (remember: "I dream of a day when my children will be judged NOT by the color of their skin but by the character of their hearts" - or something like that). He's rolling over in his grave. Wondering why he changed from Republican to Democrat shortly before his death, decrying how Democrats are SO obsessed with skin color and refuse to even so much as say the words "character" or "integrity."

What should we think about it?

The policy is obviously racist, prejudiced, immoral and the rest of what other members have pointed to already. Were we expected to find some redeeming quality hiding among the various wrongs that are built into this creation of extremist politicians?

If so, there isn't one.

My thoughts are that it is just more typical black racism. Typical black preferential treatment. Is anyone really surprised?

Blacks love to demand their 'civil rights'. As though they seek 'equality'. But 'equality' has never been their goal. Once they got 'civil rights' they wanted more. Preferential treatment. Afirmitive Action, which gives them the rights over whites. Why? Because 'equality' didn't work. Equality just showed the superiority of the white man. Thus they needed more. Afirmitive Action.

Then, because blacks have been so mistreated in the past, they need 'reparations'. Reparations for what? For being black? That is what they are saying, though they don't have enough sense to realize it.

So, concerning this 'ebony alert', as I said, no surprise here. After all, only Black Lives Matter. So all you stupid whites just need to get in line behind the blacks and take your place. Which just makes the feel good whites, feel so good. (gag).

My thoughts.

Ebony alerts seem very exclusive. What if someone was of broadly Asian descent - will there be a Brown Alert for them? What about a Yellow Alert for people originally from Oriental areas?

What if someone is HALF African American (like President Obama or Vice President Harris)? Do they get an Ebony Alert?

Yes, I think this whole thing is not only RACIST but silly. But SO very, very Democrat.

Maybe there are a range of alerts from full-on Ebony Alert for people who are as black as it's possible to be, to a kinda-sorta Milky Coffee Alert for people who are paler. Maybe there's an Ebony And Ivory Alert for people who are black/white mixed race, or Ebony And Coffee for people who are black/Asian and so on.

It starts to feel like all the endless colored ribbons and rosettes people use to indicate what conditions they might have. Because everybody can be bothered to remember a dozen different color combinations to figure out what specific needs this person wearing a ribbon might have.

...and that's exactly why "equality," which once was the key word, has lately been changed to "equity."

Most people probably haven't even noticed the switch, although it seems that every city government, school, business, and bank has adopted the new wording.

"Equity" also has the benefit of not having any particular meaning in practice. It just refers to fairness, which means whatever the speaker wants it to mean, whereas "equality" does have a generally agreed-upon definition, and when preferential treatment is being demanded instead of equal treatment, the user is open to being considered a phony.

Equity is also a handy term because it's easy to point at specific examples of how it works and is better than strict equality. But then come the blurred definitions that make it mean more or less anything.

Edit: when done well the idea of equity can mean something like this:

But in more complex situtions (the kind that don't neatly map into memes to share online) it doesn't necessary look very fair.

Uh, no. Where's the drawing in which the shortest boy is raised above the others who then
may--but may not--be able to see the game because of the repositioning?

That's why I said what I did about more complex situations. In a situation like the one with the boxes equity makes more sense. In more complex situations where it's not necessarily as easy to determine individual need it's not as clear cut.

But hey, good job on taking one thing I said and ignoring the context of the limitations I explicitly mentioned.

Well, I did take note of that statement, but such a vague reference made in passing seemed to serve only to allow you to say you offered us a balanced response when, in reality, the post mainly promoted the false notion that "equity" should be understood as merely another way of saying "equality."

Most of these kinds of "slogan" words are propaganda and mean something other than what they actually say. To describe this particular issue in the way that those cartoons do, as if equity means equality, does a real disservice.

There are many other examples, of course, and they are used by all manner of candidates and political movements, right and left and otherwise, but this is the one that came up here and now.

I think the Liberal idea is the opposite - to knock down the two taller boys so they are just as low as the short one.

Or to build a taller fence so that nobody can see.
