U.S. presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will announce he is running as an independent instead of pursuing his long-shot bid to oust President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party nominee, a shift that could complicate the 2024 election.

I would suspect this hurts Trump more than Biden. Very few Democrats were going to vote for Kennedy anyway. But there are a lot of Republicans looking for an alternative for Trump that didn’t want to vote for Biden.

What are your thoughts?

I think it could just as easily hurt Biden. From what I'm seeing a growing number of Democrats think he is too old and senile to stand again so, if he stands again anyway, it's easy to see moderate Democrats wanting a "not Biden" option that isn't Trump.

My guess is that it would hurt Biden more, and that's because he IS a Democrat and has that Kennedy name. If some Dems (not necessarily anywhere near a majority of them, note) think Biden is an embarrassment, ran the country poorly, and cannot survive four more years, who else will they have to turn to on election day? Cornel West?

Kennedy's prospects may depend on whether or not he seeks and gets the Libertarian Party nomination. If the answer is "yes," he'll be on the ballot in every state (or almost) and have his campaign covered to some extent by the major media. But if he has to start in October to qualify an independent candidacy in each state with their different petition requirements, yada yada yada, he will have a much lesser impact.

Trump or Kennedy? The White House would no longer be a Crack House! And no more $50,000 hot dogs!

If he's trying to compete, this is what he has to do. Biden isn't going anywhere. Neither is Trump, or the seven Republican candidates that have been duking it out in these debates. His best bet would be to team up with the Libertarian Party, and I'm sure that's what will happen. Hopefully people don't vote for this individual just because of his name. Pay attention to what he says... Some of what I've seen has been concerning.
