Because this development is expected in New York in the near future (and might be repeated a number of times in other states as the 2024 election draws closer)...

What do you think the effect upon voters in the upcoming primaries and the general election will be?

1. Trump is humiliated and destroyed politically?

2. Many Independents and Republicans who had been cool towards Trump because of his personality, or who thought a "new face" as the next nominee would make sense, will feel morally obligated to vote for Trump after such an attack upon democracy as prosecuting the likely nominee of the "out of power" party" would be?

3. Some of the above, something else, or none of the above?

It's hard to know. I suspect enough people have made up their mind on Trump, one way or the other, that nothing will ever change it.

I don't think there is any doubt he will try to be a political martyr and gain sympathy from his followers and rally support around him. I don't know if it will work.

I'd agree with that, but I was wondering about the reaction of voters who are not already died-in-the-wool Trump supporters.

I guess we know by now what the answer to #1 above has been. President Trump was not "humiliated and destroyed politically" because of the events in New York. Trump's support has increased.

So, what do you think will happen in the long run--"this support is only a momentary reaction that'll fade'" OR "the indictments will progressively be seen more as a partisan act?"

It is my opinion that the atheistic liberal democratic left, will stop at nothing to stop Trump. Nothing!

I have said before, I doubt you will ever see a conservative, Chrisitian, Republican, president again. The liberal left control the numbers with the immigration polices. They control the F.B.I. as their storm troopers to exercise their will. They control the media to tell their lies over and over so that 'stupid' Americans believe them. And stupid Americans do. And they throw people in jail who oppose them. Political prisoners.

My, oh my. The tyranny of the people. [Staff Edit] Americans don't understand that just because the people rule and have the power, doesn't mean it is not a tyrannical and despotic rule. In fact, it, democracy can become/is the cruelist and most dictorial rule.

I found it curious reading the New York Times' daily email this morning how they compared Trump to others who had faced trial and jail for mishandling classified documents, complete with examples.

For some reason the presence of classified documents that a certain Mrs Clinton mishandled, even going so far as to claim she thought (C) meant "copyright", didn't get a mention. I can't for the life of me think why that would be.

If nothing else it's a convenient distraction from the laptop that didn't belong to Hunter and didn't contain any discussion of dubious transactions, and even if it did they were nothing to do with Hunter, and even if they were there's nothing to see here so let's all move along.

What's curious is the way the justice system seemed disinterested in investigating candidate Clinton because it didn't want to be seen to be interfering in an election, but is quite happy to investigate candidate Trump because now interfering with an election isn't a problem.

I agree.

IMO, Trump seems to have an almost cult following... and NOTHING will diminish that. If he were to die, I suspect they'd say it was a liberal, "woke" conspiracy and that he's still alive. Seriously, I doubt ANYTHING would possibily cause them to not passionately support Trump. That might be enough to get the nomination (looks like it now) but not enough to win (but he'll claim he did NO MATTER WHAT - and all his followers will swallow that... again).

You might have guessed I'm not a part of that.... I like most of Trumps policies, but I find those in most of the Republicans running (some better than in Trump) without putting up with Trump.

I know. He has funny hair and isn't as phony as most politicians are. BUT which of the self-absorbed challengers for the GOP nomination would you say has any ability or willingness to actually do something worthwhile in the face of the radicalism of those who are in power at present?

That, I'm sure, is one of the main reasons that Trump has earned the following that you were referring to above..

The sad fact is, not even Trump can correct the failings of the U.S.

The U.S. flies the queer flag proudly. In the face of God.

Biden and the democrats fly the queer flag, in the face of God.

They walk and act like God doesn't see it. Like He doesn't care. Fools. Destruction is at their door and they are oblivious to it.

The next bit of news is that Trump hinted he would be arrested again. Do you think he'll finally step out of the race?

Does that matter? As I have said, the liberal left doesn't care who the conservative candidate is. They will not allow them to win.

And silly conservatives and christians continue on as though both conservatives and liberals operate on equal ground. Liberals don't care about what they need to do to win the elections. They will do whatever it takes.

Biden is nothing short of a child molester. What a pervert. Yet I hear no complaints from the liberal left. I watch the news and nothing is said. But my oh my, Trump has some documents in his possession just like all other presidents had.

Christians and conservatives need to realize the country is gone. It is being 'reframed' as PBS stations like to claim. That means it is not the nation it was made to be. That should concern everyone, but it doesn't.

America worked because of what it was. It won't work as it is reframed to something else.

Homes are cheap in Detroit. You got 100 dollars you can buy a home. Good ole reframed U.S.A.

Good question, but I cannot imagine how doing that would help him.

Someone might suggest that a deal in which he'd step out of the race in exchange for a dropping of the charges would be satisfying to both sides. The problem with that deal is that his enemies have a long list of charges just waiting to be filed; and they are not all federal charges.

The state-level allies of the Washington crowd have their own charges set to use when called upon. In other words, Trump would be trading something that the Democrats desperately want neutralized...in exchange for nothing.

Whoever Trump would deal with would afterwards simply get on the phone and the slow-motion coup would continue on.

That's worth mentioning. If Trump were to step aside, the conclusion that those people would reach would certainly be that their election interference had worked. Then the same strategy would be employed against the next Republican candidate.

A companion gameplan has been followed faithfully (and each time in almost identical form) whenever a strong Republican candidate or nominee threatens to advance in some pivotal role.

Recall that Justice Thomas was targeted with unproven charges of sexual misconduct during his confirmation hearings; Judge Roy Moore, the favorite to win an Alabama seat in the closely-divided US Senate was accused on dubious grounds of sexual impropriety; Herman Cain was the surprise victim of similar allegations after he shot to the top of the Presidential polls during the run-up to the elections of 2012; Judge Kavanaugh was almost denied confirmation to the Supreme Court when a previously unknown woman charged him with a rape about which she could provide almost no specifics; and then there have been the several attempts to destroy Trump with sex-based charges.

In short, when a successful gimmick works, or even comes close to succeeding, you can bet on it being used again.

NEVER. If he has to run from a prison cell, he will.

And he won't loose a single vote. Those who support him just support him - NO MATTER WHAT.

Trump will never back down, though I don't know if anything can be done to stop the Complex. They will continue to do all they can to stop him, because they know that if he does what he wants to, many of them will be in jail, exposed for all sorts of hideous crimes. Many famous people are secretly Satanists. Liz Crokin was right!

In fact, each of these attempts to get him have resulted in his support level going higher. That seems to be because it is natural to support someone who's been treated wrongly, even if you were neutral or lukewarm towards that person previously. It becomes a moral issue that challenges us to uphold the victim of an injustice.
