And all others....

I'd like your help.

I lead a home Bible study group most Tuesdays. And they asked that we do a short study of Millennialism (Chiliam) and Dispensationalism.

I have a resource in Francis Pieper's Dogmatics but I'd really appreciate your insights and perspectives:
It's origins and history
What exactly it holds
How this holds up to Scripture
Evaluations.

I'm not SO interested in debate as I am in your own perspectives.
Please post to ME. I'll check here often.
Please convey what you know and think on this.

It's okay to link to an article (that's appreciated) but I'm more interested in your pov.

Thanks!

- Josiah

Hello, Josiah. Thank you for including me on your list, but I'm afraid that I will be of no use to you on this particular topic. Dispensationalism has never held any interest for me, in part because I think that if there is some pattern to Christian history which is the doing of God, it will be what it is whether or not I understand it and it won't make any difference, one way or the other, to my own relationship with God.

But I'm also not interested in Dispensationalism because, as I have read about it, it's terribly complicated, usually immersed in verbal nit-picking that doesn't matter to other Christians (if it matters at all), and the movement has broken into different schools of Dispensationalist thought that are bitterly opposed to each other.

Take a quick look at the following article and you'll see what I mean--

Honestly, even though I was technically in a "dispensationalist" church growing up and into my adult years, it was never really taught as a class and only vaguely from the pulpit.

All I really remember is the belief that there are different "ages" in history and we are living in the "church age" or the "age of Grace". Other than that, and some folks having an intense interest in end times prophecy I can't really remember any specific teachings.

I do remember the teaching that the Nation of Israel being "reborn" after WWII was considered a prophetic sign coming to pass. I also remember being told to watch what happens in Israel. The belief that the Temple being reconstructed on the Temple Mount will be a sign of the impending Rapture.

When I was 10 years old or so I remember a group from my church watching the Late Great Planet Earth. And of course, everyone in my circle read the "Left Behind" books back in the 90's.

I know this is a late response, but perhaps it will still benefit. I am a dispensationalist and hold to the millennial 1000 year reign of Christ upon the earth.

The most important thing to me that defines a dispensationalist is that which he interprets in the Bible as 'literal', as opposed to 'figurative' or 'spiritual'.

I say, 'that which he interprets', because all interpretations of the Bible use both literal and figurative methods. But the dispensationalist takes some things in the Bible as literal where others do not.

Plus, if everyone was honest they would agree that all are dispensational to a degree. If you hold to the Old and New Testament, then you're dispensational. God was doing something in the Old that has changed now in the New. Two different dispensations.

The dispensationalist however will recognize more dispensations than just two.

Sounds like a questionable way of defining "dispensationalism." Conventionally, the term means that God laid out religious history in a series of certain specific and identifiable epochs, which are referred to in Scripture.
If you hold to the Old and New Testament, then you're dispensational.
I don't know any dispensationalists who'd agree with that.

I didn't 'define' dispensationalism.

I can't help who you know.

Josiah spcifically said, he is interested in any's point of view. And he specifically said, (No Debate). Which causes me to wonder why he 'thumbs up' your comments to me.

If Josiah wants to allow a debate on 'dispensationalism', I am more than willing. Just let me know. Otherwise I am not going to argue with you just to then have you complian about debating and the moderators come and lock out this thread because I have broken the rule of 'no debate'. So he needs to remove the 'no debate' rule.

If Josiah doesn't want debate, then just consider my comments in post #(7) as coming from a dispensationalist.

The help Josiah asked for was needed about four months ago. And no debate is going on now for you to jump into, one way or the other.

Well, from what I read of the replies, he didn't get much. So, as I dispensationalist, I thought I would give my understanding of it.

@Lees

As indicated in the opening post, FOUR MONTHS ago, I asked some posters specifically (and it's public so others re welcome) to share specific information. Specifically to help me with a study I was preparing that week.

No one did. Including you.

The thread could be closed, if Staff so determines.

Including me? I was serving a 6 month ban at the time. Just got back a few days ago.

That's fine...lock it out.

Of that I'm sure. But this last trouble with 'your account has been suspended' got me wondering.
