The one I found worst was at a bus stop at night with a snow storm, a flat tire from a carriage bike and 4 kids at night or maybe it was a fabulous place, because we could finally catch a bus. I brought the kids to swimming lessons and the mother from a friend from school had to workand asked if I could take her kid too. Sure. Lol and on the way back it started to snow and I got a flat tire. Kids were like 4 wet cats. I called the mom, who has a big fat warm cosy car and was home already. She said oh golly it snows. I dare not use the car. Ah. Okay. I'll pedal harder then. LOL We ended up in the Mc Donalds near his house and I was too exhausted so leave afterwards. Then his dad picked us up and brought us home.

Messy, I'm intrigued to learn that your reply concerned events in a bus station, and that's because I was set to have "bus station" be my own answer.

I remember a few occasions when I spent time in a grimy bus station not intending to buy a ticket, board a bus, or go anywhere myself, but just waiting on a friend who was the actual traveler. A panorama of people from all backgrounds will pass before your eyes then, one after another, while you're basically just sitting there, feeling like some kind of eavesdropper or interloper.

Where's the worst place to wait?

Washington Dulles International Airport is a desperately tedious place to wait for any length of time. My record was an 8-hour layover there. About three hours in I lost the will to live.

Airports in general are intensely dull places to wait for any length of time, and when a layover runs to that kind of duration it's hard to see how it can possibly be improved. Of course what adds insult to injury is the knowledge that it would have taken significantly less than 8 hours to have got a one-way rental and driven the rest of the way.
