“And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.” John 11:49–52 (KJV 1900)

Salvation is of the Jews. Jesus did not die for every person born, but for the salvation of Israel. From whom God removed the unbelievers (He did not die for them) and added believing gentiles in their place.

All people to a Jew = both Jews and Gentiles. This is based on God's promise to Abraham. It is obvious he didn't die for Judas or most of the Pharisees. He blinded them so they could not believe.

The world = is Kosmos. = Future Universe, also Jews and gentiles. Not each and every person, obviously.

Whosoever = the trait of those he saves. They will believe. Most do not.

The Jews were community oriented. They weren't individually oriented like today's evangelical churches.

Americanised "Christians" are blind to scripture for the most part.

Those who think they can study on their own can be blind as well. Even the disciples studied with Jesus for 3 years.

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” 1 John 2:27 (KJV 1900)

Of course we should keep studying and learning, but look to Jesus and not to self.

I always pray before studying. And always give thanks for the truth He shares with me. I feel indebted to Him to share it with you and others.

I think the biggest problem with Americanised Christians is in trying to understand scripture as if it were written today. They have very little if any understanding of the Jews to whom it is addressed, and what they would believe in reading it. Many volumes exist trying to bridge this gap but they are of zero value to today's crop.

And then there are those who think they are understanding the scripture as the ancients would but who still are reading it as if it were written today. These pages hold many examples of that.

It's everywhere. But a serious bible student will always consider the audience in making their interpretation.
