As a Christian, it is hard for me to think the State protects me from any Church. But that's what it is about. Think of the thousands, if not millions killed if you include the Catholics and their history. How do you comprehend this, or deal with it being presently associated with them?

Separation of church and government prevents governmental establishment of a favored religion and, in so doing, preserves freedom of religion with respect to both the beliefs and practice.

Much more likely than that is the government prohibiting the exercise of religion by any and all Christian churches and individuals.
