In Matthew it says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. And Herod (who lived in Jerusalem) wanted to kill baby Jesus. So an angel warned Joseph in a dream, and he fled as far away from Jerusalem as possible, and went to Egypt.

But in Luke, it says that after Jesus was born, instead of Joseph fleeing from Herod, he actually takes baby Jesus TO Jerusalem to be dedicated at the temple. But Jerusalem is where Herod lived!

Huh??? Joseph and Mary take Jesus TOWARD the danger? They take him to Jerusalem where Herod lived? But I thought they fled to get as far away from him as possible!

How do you solve this contradiction???

By knowing that dedication took place around eight days after birth and most bible scholars think Jesus may have been as old as two years when the flight to Egypt took place

No contradiction.

"What I think" is that people who are unfamiliar with the Bible would do CH members a favor by first doing a search for the answers to questions like this one.

Any online search engine can and will point to the answer(s) to such apparent "problems" that are not really theological controversies anyway. And doing that will make the creation of a new "discussion" thread for which no discussion is needed be unnecessary.

They didn’t take baby Jesus to the temple until after Mary’s time of purification was complete, which is about a month or more.

I know the answer. I’m trying to see if YOU know the answer, and can explain it in your own words.

Then just tell us what your theory is. You know...just about the same as every other thread that challenges the Biblical account of things.

I want to see other people’s answers instead.

Yea, no duh. I’m asking people to explain WHY.

No. You are claiming there are contradictions.... but you offered NOTHING showing that.

No one needs to "answer" any of your (endless) claims... until you show your claims are true. Duh.

So...it's meant to be entertainment for you rather than a call to all Christian readers to engage in a discussion that might shine light on a controversial issue. From what I know, it's the latter objective that's in synch with the rules, not the first one.

I wouldn’t call it entertainment. I’d call it listening to other’s answers before giving my own.

Doesn’t the Bible say to be ready to give an answer? If an atheist asked you about this supposed contradiction, how would you respond?

If you don’t have anything good to say, then it would be better to not say anything at all.
